Default Older Dog's Puppy

We got the Puppy on Friday...our 11 year old Collie X Tomas is....well terrified of it...if the Pup comes within 2 or 3 yards he's off and theres no stopping him!

How do I control this?

I would invest in a baby gate, or pop the puppy in a crate, this way you can allow Tomas to have a good sniff and get used to the presence of the puppy without fear of being bounced on initially.

When the pup is loose provide somewhere safe for Tomas to go, and respect his right to retreat if he feels he needs to at this stage. You can help him to associate the presence of the pup by making good things happen when the pup is around - bring the pup into the room in a crate, begin feeding Tomas a handful of yummy treats, then take the pup away and the treats stop etc etc.

Congratulations on your new pup! I hope you'll post some pics for us.

Great advice from Kaos. I'd suggest the baby gate too. Good advice about feeding treats when the puppy is nearby too. I hope they settle in as friends very soon.

I agree with Kaos' advice. When we introduced Ruby to Knuckles, Knuckles was VERY excited and wanted to get to know her but she was terrified. I put her in a crate and let Knuckles investigate from the outside. After a while Ruby got used to him and now they're best friends!
