Default Puppies trying to nurse...

Okay, so we have the two 5 week old pups, and an appx 4 month old pup (Soldier) who is male. When we allow them out together-the two pups chase Soldier down and attempt to nurse off of his..."junk". They grab ahold and suck really hard. He dosen't like it too much and gets snippy with them.

Any remedies for this? Or should we try to keep them seperate until they get older?

Oh my! LOL, poor Soldier. I don't know what I'd do in this case but I'm inclined to say if he's willing to correct the pups without doing harm, I'd probably let him tend to his own junk. But, I'd be inclined to give him some backup if they're being too persistent.

It would be best to keep them apart until they've been weaned for a week or so and have broken the habit of nursing completely. Those little guys have a lot of pucker power and can really hurt once they get latched on!

It wouldn't be unreasonable for the older pup to defend himself since he wouldn't know they don't mean any harm to him. It still hurts like heck!
