Default New puppy?

I'm a little upset right now. A while back I posted that I was considering a second dog, a border collie/Australian Shepard cross. Well I made the mistake of telling my parents that I was considering getting a puppy. My mom talked to the breeder who I was considering buying from, and low and behold she had a puppy left over from a litter born 9 or 10 weeks ago, same sire different dam than the pairing I was looking at.

Now my mom and dad have the puppy at their house, and I'll get to see it in another two days, as I'm going home for vacation this weekend. But what do I do with the puppy? I really should tell them to take the puppy back to the breeder, but I think my mom has fallen in love with it. My dad has made it clear that he doesn't want a second dog, so my mom told him I was going to take it. ("It", I don't even know the gender!)

I don't think I'm ready for a puppy yet, but at the same time I feel I should hang on to this one because there's no guarantee that I'll be able to get a puppy out of the litter I was planning on in the first place.

So anyway, that's my conundrum. Just had to let somebody know.

Yikes!
Sweet of your mom, but not good! If you are not ready for the puppy and your Dad is against having it it your parents' home, it kinda sounds to me like the puppy has to go back.

I think I agree with you, skunkstripe. Mom does this from time to time I should know better than to tell in advance what I'm planning to do.

I don't think anybody can tell you what to do here - totally your personal choice. But I will say that if you do decide the pup has to go back don't feel bad as it certainly wasn't your doing. Also, presuming a responsible breeder that will happily take the pup back, the pup really won't have come to any harm from the experience and will still be young enough to find a good home easily.

Mom! Mom! Mom! LOL, well, she had very good intentions. I agree with what has been said above. Good luck, I'm sure it will be a tough choice to make.
