A bit of milk should be okay but really there is no reason to give it. It can cause diarrhea or other complications. Dogs (and cats) lack the proper enzymes to break down the lactose in milk.

A little bit of milk, if you feel necessary to give it to Knuckles, shouldn't do harm and I'm sure Knuckles would enjoy it. I've let me dogs drink milk after I've finished my cereal.

It's not recommended as part of a regular diet for puppies as it can cause upset stomachs.

This is what I thought.

I have not been feeding him cows milk myself. We had some puppy milk but it ran out and Jay has been feeding him fat free cows milk (he just told me today). I told him that he shouldn't be doing this because it could be bad for him but he insisted it wasn't.

I was actually thinking of not feeding him milk at all now. Is it too early for this? We also have him eating a puppy dry kibble.

I let Kira have some from my glass when she begs, but I wouldn't give more than 2/3rds cup. Otherwise you'll have a sick pup on your hands.

How old is he?

And I wouldn't feed puppy food, it's got too much protein and can cause your dog to have distorted joints like over grown ankles. Just feed a high-quality wet or dry food. If it's dry just put a little water in it to avoid bloat and to soften it.

Yes, puppy food can make him grow too fast.

And I'd say you should be weaning him off milk now, he's over 8 weeks.

Yeah, I haven't been giving him milk myself because I thought he was too old for it now but my boyfriend has been feeding it to him without me knowing... then wondering why he hasn't been eating his dry food!

So, this is going to be a stupid question... why do they produce puppy food that is not good for a puppy? I thought feeding Knuckles something that was specially designed for pups was a good thing to be doing.

Large companies that manufacture Puppy Food don't bother to publicize the facts that too much protein is bad. And puppy food is hyper jacked with it.

When Charlie was a puppy, we had him on puppy food. Then we took him to the vet because his ankles were swollen. Turned out that they had actually over grown the rest of his body, and the vet said we should switch to large adult food immediately, so that the rest of his body could catch up.

If you do feed puppy food, check the protein levels. Adult food sometimes is low on protein, but most puppy foods are waaaay to high.
