Smile Hey there!

Hello everyone! I'll be doing a lot of research into acquiring our first dog for our family as a Christmas present to our kids (age 5 and 6) this year. Thank you for providing a great resource.

Hello s-one and

This is of course a great place to ask anything you want about dogs, both breeds and how to be a good owner.
Just a heads-up though, Christmas is a fun time for little kids, but tends to be very scary for little puppies (especially if they are in a new home) so be prepared for us to try to talk you into modifying your plans a little.

Hello and welcome to the forum! Great to have you with us. Owwwww, we love new puppies! You've come to a great place for advice & info.

What kind of puppy are you considering?

Hi skunkstripe! Thank you very much for your info. I can understand the concerns and in fact, I had put off acquiring a dog for the past 3 years or because I was always away for work and there would be no one to take care of it during the workdays. Now, I work from home and have more time for the little ones including a dog. Can't wait!

Hi Katz! Thank you. I have nooooo clue as to what to consider. But it has to be kid friendly. Thank God, I don't have hyper kids but fun loving ones that will give it a lot of attention. I have a 6 year old realist and a 5 year old dreamer. The realist will tend to make sure things are ok.. ie making sure it has plenty of water to drink, food and no ones hurting it. The dreamer wants to dress it up in girl clothes and play house. You get the picture.

.Hi s-one and welcome to the forum from me and my gang in Bonnie Scotland.
Lovely to hear you are getting a puppy . I think all kids should be brought up with dogs, it teaches them responsibility. Like the others Christmas is not the ideal time to get a puppy as Kids are so excited about Santa Claus coming, etc and the house is usually full of visitors.

The slogan of one ot the dog resue's here in the UK is "A Dog is for Life Not just for Christmas" having said that I wish you luck in your search for a puppy and you have a few months to research and consider which breed will be best for you and the kids and if we can be of any help please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi BM and thank you so much for the info. I will definitely take into consideration the "Christmas" issue. I have plenty of time to consider and such a great resource from you all. Thanks again.

Welcome! I am glad you've come to a good place to research before getting a pup. So many people don't and they run into problems. It's just so great that you're looking into it first. I am in agreement with the others. Xmas is not a good time to get a pup...too much commotion. LOL. Glad you've joined. I'm new here too.
