Default New Here

Hi all!

I'm new here and thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself. I'm currently a full-time college student living with my boyfriend in sunny New Mexico. We do not currently own any dogs but are hoping to buy a pair of pups when we graduate and have a more suitable home for them.

I was raised with cats so the dog world is rather new to me. My experience with dogs has been limited and I have not had the best encounters. About 8 months ago my boyfriend's little sister got a young mix-breed dog who fell very ill. When the dog regained his strength he began to develop anxiety and aggression issues. The family called on numerous trainers to help them curb the aggression but the dog only became more ferocious to people outside of the immediate family. After a rather nasty attack they adopted him out to a farm family who had more practice with and more space for anxious and aggressive dogs. His sister has since gotten a new younger puppy who is an aboslute charmer and will soon be starting puppy classes.

The whole encounter has left me confused as far as how to interact with dogs, especially aggressive ones. I hope to learn as much as possible here so that I can enjoy normal interactions with dogs I meet, and so I can be a great puppy parent when the time comes. Thanks for reading!

Hello and welcome to the forum! Great to have you with us. I've just recently gotten back into the dog world (after being dogless for about 10 years). I was heavily involved in obedience training & trials in the 80-90s and am now back at it. I bred cats for 20 years beginning in the early 80s.

At present, I have one Birman cat & one Golden Retriever. I'm looking to get another dog & at least 2 more cats sometime soon.
