Default Me, Cooper, and Molly Magee!

Hi, I joined the forum the other day. This is a great forum. I just love the internet! To have so much help and information at the tips of ones fingertips is amazing. I have had a Havenese male (Cooper) since 2005, and on March 4th of this year I adopted a maltapoo female from the animal shelter. We named her Molly. I found out she was pregnant from the vet that spayed her. She was too young to be preggers! Just a year and 1/2. Poor baby. Anyway, here in California you cannot adopt a dog without it being spayed or neutered first. I was not planning on getting a new dog, I just went to get Cooper's licensed renewed, and said hey why not take a look. Well there she was, like a little white Cooper. She is not really, but she has hair, not fur like the Havenese, and the same cute shaggy look. She is so sweet! Well, coming from the animal shelter, and who knows how long she was a stray, she came with some problems. She was such a mess. They would not let me take her to the groomers before her surgery, so I have to wait ten days before she can be bathed. I got some spray on shampoo and used that, I combed her and cut the matts that could not be combed, and she is better in that sense, poor baby girl. She does not smell or anything. However, found out she has worms. Ok, after much stress, got her to the vet and had that taken care of. Oh, and Cooper, so much for the company! He wants nothing to do with her LOL. I am hoping this will change, and I have high hopes they will become best of friends. Donna

Hi Donna and
Sounds like you are a kind soul with a soft spot in your heart for doggies! So you are in the right place!
Getting dog #1 to accept dog #2 won't happen overnight. I watched Zircon adjust to Sophia and well, he was not thrilled at the beginning. It took him several months to accept the "interloper".
Anyway glad to see you here and good luck!

Hi mollymoo, welcome to the forum How sweet of you to adopt a dog. Skunkstripe is right, sometimes it can take awhile for your dog to get to that point where she is comfortable with the new dog...give it time, it'll happen
Soon enough they'll be best buddies

Hi & Welcome! Great to have you with us! Congrats on the new addition to your family. As always, it will take some adjustment but I hope your dogs all become great friends soon.

I'd love to see pics of your dogs. Please share some when you get a chance.

Hi, Thank you all for your welcome. Regarding pictures, I have to find out where my husband has put the digital camera. I espcially want to take one of Molly before her grooming and one after LOL. When I am able I will post pictures, I have one of me my husband and Cooper graduating for Petco puppy class. Which he is a pretty good dog, however, I am still unable to get him to do the most important comand "COME". He will sit and stay, and he is very good most times when I say no. However, I really need to work on the come part, I have been lazy, as by the most part they are indoor dogs and on leash when out. However, he did get out a few weeks ago at my daughters, and he kept going, but they finally caught up with him. The other dog, his half sister is real good about coming. Cooper, he just looks at me and stands his ground when I try to work with him, he will come if I have a treat, so I guess it is back to treat and training for him. We did get him microchipped, so I feel at little better about if he should get loose. Of course that would not help if someone found him and decided to keep him. And why wouldn't they he is so cute!
