Smile New to dogs

Hi there,

I would like to introduce myself - I am Maria from Wiltshire in England. I am very new to the whole dog thing....

I grew up thinking all dogs were scary and bit people. This was largely because my Mum (and her Mum) didn't like dogs and (unintentionally) passed this on to me and my sister. Now, at 30 years of age, my husband finally persuaded me for us get a dog, and we have a lovely 5 month old Boxer.

The amazing thing is that this has helped overcome my fear of dogs as I now understand their behaviour and how to handle them. My sister really likes our puppy and my Mum is coming round to him too!

I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has had a similar experience.

Maria.

Hi Maria Hope you enjoy the forum and a big welcome from me and my gang. Gpod luck with your Boxer puppy and if you have any questions I am sure there will be someone on here who can give you advice.
So pleased to hear you have got over your fear of dogs and wish you and your puppy a happy life. Though puppies are a lot of work they are well worth it so enjoy cause they grow up too quickly. Pictures when you get a chance would be nice.

My step granddaughter grew up afraid of dogs, also, probably same cause as you although she did have a bad experience. Since being around Max she now can hold him, pet him and take him for walks. I don't know how her comfort with a fuzzy shih tzu is going to transfer to other dogs, especially big dogs. She is able to tolerate the gs that her uncle brought home, but had a terrible experience taking it for a walk, at his insistance, (he's a jerk) saying it would help her get over her fear. He ran way over a mile dragging her behind! She was scared she would lose him if she let go.

Glad that you got a boxer, I absolutely love the slobbery things-but to big and to active for me now.

We got our Boxer from Swansea. At the time we were looking it seemed that all the Boxer breeders were around there!
