Default Introducing myself and our two kids

Sometimes I really hate these 'introduce yourself forums' because I never know what to say, so here goes nothing.

I live in Central Texas, have ever since I retired from the Army in 1990 after 22yrs. After that I worked on Ft. Hood with various contractors for 23yrs and retired from that in 2013. I've been married going on 46yrs this November.

We've got two dogs, both were rescues from the city animal shelter. One is a large Yorkshire Terrier, by large I mean he weighs around 23lbs. The other is a Smooth Jack Russell. Our Yorkie has diabetes, cushings and is blind. Our Jack Russell came down with diabetes exactly 1yr from the date we found out the Yorkie was diabetic. We found out yesterday that she also has cushings.

Our Yorkie is really a laid back dog, nothing seems to bother him and if you saw him walking around the backyard you'd be hard pressed to know he was blind.

Our Jack Russel is the clown of the family. She does some of the weirdest things. For instance, we have one of those little lamp tables in the living room with a long table cloth on it. She will go half way under it and just stand there then about 3 or so minutes later will come back out and shake herself off. What's scary about this is that we used to have a dog that was basset hound/Dalmatian mix and she would do the exact thing. Other things she does. Before she became diabetic she'd have to have a 'fake' glucose check twice a day. I'd pretend to poke her ear without a lancet and then my wife would hold the meter up to her ear and go 'beep'. She'd be happy. She would also have to have a 'fake' insulin shot twice a day. My wife would put the cap back on the syringe, touch her with it and go 'shhhh' and she'd be happy. I could go on and on with how odd she is even so far as we think she's go 'OCD'!

So that's about it for our family. I'll post more in a forum later.

Welcome Chris, we're glad to have you join us! I think you are going to like it here, we have a great group of friendly, helpful, and supportive people and no drama :-) Your dogs sound like they have adorable personalities... I hope we get to see pictures of them. The "fake glucose" test made me laugh and I'm looking forward to hearing more about their antics. I was lucky enough to live in Tx for 2 1/2 years and loved it there, the closest I got to you was Waco though. I lived in Irving but spent a good deal of time in the WF, Houston, and Beaumont areas. Again, welcome!

Thanks JGLI, I've got a couple short videos of your blind Yorkie manipulating himself around the back yard. They're on YouTube, I can post the links in the morning. I'll get some good photos of our Jack Russell tomorrow also and post. I have lots more stores about her that I'll post in the regular forum.

Chris, welcome to the forum. Looking forward to pictures and videos. My husband was born and grew up in Texas. Though we don't live in Texas, as the old saying goes, "You can take the boy out of Texas, but you can't take the Texas out of the boy."

Wow! Thanks everyone for all the warm welcomes! I would have replied back earlier but I spent a good part of the day at the VA for appointments. I've attached a link for two videos of our Blind, diabetic, w/Cushings Syndrome Yorkie Mojo. https://youtu.be/6KnrEPxOFbE https://youtu.be/_tXIW7VQoQQ and here is one of our Jack Russell, Gracie, before she got diabetes. She used to always have to have a fake shot after Mojo and she'd even have to have a fake glucose check. Now she gets the real thing. https://youtu.be/yEiFAILBOUg Besides all the other things I mentioned in my initial post Gracie has changed her name to Princess all on her own. We noticed one day that if you called here Gracie and then Princess in the same exact tone of voice her tail would react twice as hard when you called her Gracie. Now she reacts to either name.

Good videos. Loved the one of them taking turns to get their shots and being happy about the shots. You have really trained them well!
