Our vet is wonderful. Ingleside is a small, only 4000 here, and he is the only vet here. But he has a great hospital. He designed it himself and he has a newspaper clipping framed that says he has one of the 10 top best designed animal hospitals in the country. He has heated operating tables (I have never been on one that was not ice cold), heated units for ICU, and has a isolation area completely separate from everything else. He has the exame rooms and one even has a table that lowers and raises for large animals--tho he usually gets down on the floor with them. His work area where the ICU units are is also where they set bones, m do dentals, etc. I hae spent much time back there with my dogs after dentals, and visiting with them in ICU. B

He came here about 23 years ago as a young man of 30 and took over the animals hospital that was built back in the 40's. So out dated. I was one of his first clients with my elderly Irish Setter and becaue he was new, people waited a while so when I would go in we spent time talking and he found I had been raised on a farm and had tended animals. When I had Kaycee spayed, he asked if I wanted to watch--I did. Fascinating. He had this new clinic built a couple of years later. He has what he calls the Green Folders, and they are green binders. If you are dependable, he lets you pay installments. He and I joke that I and my husband have paid for one of those ICU units--it is double deckle on wheels, two large units on the bottom 4 on the top. Is heated if needed.

Kaycee had luxating patella, so had her knee operated on at 16 months. Then 13 months later, her other knee started slipping and she had to have it operated on. Successful both times. Hunter developed AIHA brought on by Proheart6, and also it was killing his liver. He was in ICU 8 days, on pred and other drugs, antibiotics by IV, had two blood transfusions, ultrasounds, etc. Bill was $2500, but some whose dogs wre only treated 4-5 days had much higher bills. Fort Dodge, the maker of Proheart 6 back then paid over half the bill, thanks goodness. But anyway, Rickey knows I can handle stuff. I watched as he removed a large area of golden retriever's side to get a clean edge on a mast cell tumor. I was always with her after dental becaue she had hallucinations and was so terrified. I just laid on the floor and held her. I have spent a LOT of time in the back in the work area. When I take one of my dogs in they ask me if I want to pay or be billed. Funny thing, I sometimes just take a check in so I hae a credit. I said I have had as much as a $200 credit and owed as much as $2500.

We go through Ingleside on the way to Port Aransas, haven't been that way in years though. We spend time in Galveston now whenever we get the chance. Haven't had much of a chance lately though with all my VA appointments, our dogs and their problems (even though when we go out of town we board them with our vet) and my wife's messed up knees. We've been going to our vet since '96 when he first opened with all of the animals we've had both dogs and cats. Their service is fantastic. The owner also has an emergency vet clinic in Killeen, we've made a few visits there also. They're a great bunch of people and if I have any questions I can send one of the office staff a PM on Facebook and get an answer almost immediately.

If you have not been to Port A in a while, you would be in for a shock. It is nowhere the sleepy little fishing village it was when we moved down here back in '88. Condos, high dollar homes, HUGE gift shops, etc hae forced almost all the little mom & pop places to shut down and local were forced out due to high taxes. When we first came here they had two 9 car ferries and three 20 car ferries. Now they have two or three 40 car ferries and probably 6 of the 20 car ferries and almost always a line, even in a week day during the winter.

I use to go almost every day in the fall, winter and spring to fish from the south jetty. During the summer, mostly wade fishing in Redfish Bay. I loved going over there to fish and also look for fossil shark teeth on the beach. Now, it ha been 1 1/2 years since I have been there. Our grandson was working over there and he would have to leave so early becaue of ferry line wait.

There is a really nice VA clinic in Corpus. Jerry has rarely had to wait long for appointments, tho he doesn't use VA much. He is suppose to get a cat scan of his knee he injured in the Navy, but would have to go to Brownsville to get it--none of the places around here will take a VA voucher. He did get a great knee brace and a walker he can sit on if need be when walking from the VA. Wait, I don't think it isBrowsville he has to go to, but some other town down way, Can't think of it.

Whenever we have gone on short trips, we have boarded our dogs with our vet. Just feel better with them there. We took our history loving Grandson up to the Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg about 4 years ago, and then the next year to tour the Battleship Texas, San Jacinta monument, and then the net day to Galveston and went and toured the submarine and destroyer escort they have there, and then to Moody Gardens. We did go over to Lake Charles LA on a little vacation. Were gonna be gone 4 days, but got to worrying about our old golden retriever we had then, and came home a day early to get Honey.
