Angry 2 am barking in crate

Lhasa Opso crate trained for years. All of a sudden starts barking around 2 am and won't stop. Only crated at bedtime. What's going on?

Welcome PattyBurke, great to have you join us:-)
Has your dog had any change (decrease) in his/her exercise or activity level during the day that would not tire him/her out sufficiently to sleep through the night? Has there been any change in bedtime ritual? How old is your dog? (and we'd love to see some pictures :-) )

Welcome to the forum. Think JGLI asked some good questions. Also, have there been any changes in the household in general? Would also love to see photos.

Our dog is 2 1\2 years old. We have had him for 3 months. he came well trained with no problems going to the crate at bedtime. In the past I would put him to bed around 9 pm, but he never wanted to go, so I was advised to let h im stay up as long as I did and we would all go to bed at the same time.
Exercise: varies.
There are a few nights when he doesn't bark, but generally around 2 am, he's at it.
Thanks for any suggestions you can offer. I'm clueless.

Welcome to Dog Forum Patty!
Do you take him out just before you go to bed?

Is he hearing something in the neighborhood now that it's summer and windows are open? Maybe a fan or white noise machine in the room he sleeps in would be helpful if this is the case.
