Default New from Connecticut...

Hello all. Still finding my way around this forum.
I am the mom to 5. Two 2-leggers (teenage sons), and three 4-leggers.
Snickers, age 10
Pepper, age 4.5
Sonny, age 4
All are rescue dogs. Sonny is a foster failure.
Sonny is also helping Momma finish getting her Trainers license.

Default Sonny...

Oh, Sonny is well on his way. We took him as an emergency foster in April 2010. He had been placed through the rescue I was volunteering with and was not doing well. That is the nice version. I took in a cute little Tasmanian Devil.

I put a lot of work into him. The first 2 weeks on a NILIF plan, tons of exercise and training. He was much improved after 2 weeks, but not adoptable due to his bite history. It was not puppy mouthing, he was fear biting.

That was 3 years ago. He's a great dog now. And doesn't bite.

Default Nerves of Steel!!!

Thank you all for the welcome!
It's been a good week of dog training. Very pleased.
At 3:30 my son and I were inches from a barking, lunging German Shepherd.
I was impressed that he didn't move away.
(Nice teeth )

A friend of mine and his wife just adopted a 9 month old German Shepherd. They knew it had issues and a weak previous owner. He is very reactive.

They said, if I hadn't prepped them for the meeting, they would have given up immediately. For them it took 45 minutes for the dog to calm down, but the owners kept trying to sooth the dog (idiots).

It took me less than 10 minutes, then he was laying on his side with his head on my lap.

Gave them homework to work on reducing his anxiety and simple communication.
