Default New here and need some info on heat cycles

Hi i am new here and i have an 8 month old bull mastiff/huskey and she just came into her first heat cycle about 3 weeks ago. Now my male who is not fixed yet, has been licking her but nothing more, he never tried to mount her. Now that i think her heat is over after 3 weeks he is now going mental. Trying to mount her every few seconds.........she always sits and bites at his face so she is not letting him. But why after so long is he now trying to do this........i am crating my female but found the crate halfway across my livingroom today..........he is going nuts now that she is coming out of her heat...........or is she?
Please i need some advice or something..........thanks

Hi and welcome aboard Wolfspirit2013 I think the reason why this is happening is because she (what's her name) is now at the peak of her cycle, hormones are all over the place and that's what's driving your other dog wild!!! is there any chance you can crate the male dog as well or at least just crate the male dog? Once she has finnished her season are you planning to get her speyed? Good luck and keep us updated please

Haven't had this problem with dogs, but did have it with my female cat and a neighborhood male cat before we had her spayed. Spoke to the vet and was told that there is about a 3 week period after the time period that we consider the female to be in heat that she is still fertile. He told me that this is the time period when most accidental pregnancies happen because most people don't know this. It's probably the same with dogs.
