This subject would probably be a good candidate for a thread of it's own, beginning with Ramona's post #1300.

I agree as this is not the place for this discussion. If Ramona would please begin a thread with an opening post, I will move the discussion to it. As far as this thread, it does need to be kept on topic (introducing yourself and your dog) so further posts regarding the current discussion should not be posted here.

Hello, Ramona.
You are right! You will never feel what you did for Riley. Trying to 'replace' a loved pet is like trying to replace a loved human. It cannot be done and if you try, you will be disappointed because they cannot be the same critter.
You can love another dog as much though. Just don't expect them to be Rilery and love them for what they are.
Welcome to the forums. Good people with good dogs here

OK, guys I'm really sorry. I didn't know what subject to put this discussion in. Do we just post a topic without a subject heading? (Old librarians never get over losing the card catalog.

Should I just post another topic? I'll get this right yet!

And there everyone is!

So, I got the dog today. I realize that I am taking on a way different temperament, but I'm so psyched about showing this little guy what life can be like off the streets. He almost runs through his walks (which at this point aren't real long), bounding along -- so totally happy! It's all new to him. He's surprisingly mellow and snuggly for a Whatever Straight-Not Curly-Wire-Haired Terrier. He gets cranked up at times; he decided to put his feet elderly Elvis (Papillion), and they had a great time.

I do feel badly that I'm not providing him with an actual "pack," however. I'll have to seek out playmates for him, i guess. Riley never much liked to play with other dogs, so this will be new for me.

Anyway, Phelps was a cool name, but it was too heavy for him. He's Casey now, and I have to call him Phelps/Casey -- like a law firm.

He is just adorable! I'm thrilled to hear he has a new home with you :-) Casey is a great name too and who knows, maybe he will have legal clients lining up as potential playmates!
