Smile Hi, new member!

Hello Dog Forum!
I am a licensed veterinary technician with a strong interest in behavior and psychology (people and animals).
I have one dog, my first dog ever. He came with the name Riley, but it doesn't really suit him. He is one of the calmest dogs ever... inside at least. He just sleeps. Outside he trots so fast, sniffs everything, and is very confident. Inside he tends to be more reserved and fearful. At the dog park he is a complete show off. He loves to get the other dogs chasing him, and only after he has been sufficiently chased will he settle into a good wrestle. He's only 12 pounds but he loves playing rough with big dogs! The little dogs tend to be snotty and don't want much to do with him.

Here's how he came to live with me:
He was found as a stray about 8 months ago. A family brought him into the clinic where I work. We scanned him and found a microchip. The people who found him left him with us as they were allergic. We contacted the number registered to the chip; the guy lived in California. He told us he'd given the dog to someone up here and gave us the number. So we called that number, but he didn't speak much/very good English. We told him we have your dog, and he seemed to understand, but after a week and several calls he never came to pick up his dog.
Riley was scared, barking, growling a little. We all had the same thought: he can't go to a shelter. My coworker decided to take him. A month or so later, he was driving her crazy. He would escape the backyard and wander around the neighborhood. Or he would get out and bounce at the front door until he was let back in so he could do it again. He was one bored dog! I suggested she take him on walks so he wouldn't be so bored. She replied the standard, infuriating, reply: I have a yard.
About this time I moved into my own space and said I'd take him. A week later, she asked if he was driving me crazy yet. It's been 6 months and I still don't know what she was talking about! Best dog ever. Potty trained, quiet--sometimes I almost forget I have a dog! He stopped whining in his crate very quickly. It did take him about a month to start playing with me. And he did figure out what kitty roca is, but I've solved that problem.
He trains easily with a clicker, and he makes really funny noises. He looks like a chihuahua basenji mix, but he's probably just a Heinz 57.
Everyone always notices him wherever we go--he's the easiest dog you could ask for, cute as all be... really can't figure out how I'm his 4th owner (and he's likely only 1 year old).

Wow! Love to read sucess stories like yours. Lucky Riley, lucky you; it sounds like you both hit the Jackpot in this relationship.
Now we'll need some pictures!

Sadie would love Riley as she loves to chase other dogs which some dogs like and some don't.
If your Washington, USA location is Washington state and not the D.C. one maybe you live in the Bonney Lake to Enumclaw plateu somewhere?
Welcome to the forums! I've learned a lot here.

Welcome to the forum and what a great story! I'm so glad Riley found a forever home. Poor dog has been through so much in his short life. He is a cutie! We need to see more pictures.

Hello, I am a new member and proud dog parent of a female Jack Russell. Her name is Freckles and I love her very much. I am looking forward to discussions about dogs, their health, food, grooming, new medications, and anything and everything about dogs.
