Default Greetings from Bulgaria

I am Rachel. in 2006 I moved to rural Bulgaria. I ended up adopting (or being adopted by) several dogs and cats. The villa I moved into came with an old dog and 2 cats as the couple just moved out and left their animals. Soon I found another starving and beaten puppy, then a a border collie type dog gave birth to 4 pups in my barn, another small puppy found in -20 at night in snow, kittens thrown over my walls......

I became involved with raising funds for a Bulgarian lady that worked closely with German organisations and she helped me rehome two pups.

Over the last year I have now set up my own small charity to try and raise funds and work closely with 2 girls that run a local shelter in the city close to me. We also try and get dogs out of the 'isolator' where the council catch dogs and take them (usually to die).

I have 3 rescued Bulgarian dogs and would have lots more but we travel alot and work in different places so not really an option.

Hello from Oz. I've heard dog and cat rescue is overwhelming in that area of Europe. I don't know if I could cope. I have a hard enough time, here. Too many tears. I would love to help you, but I'm always in trouble for trying to help 'just one more'. There are charities in Britain, that bring dogs from Spain, Bulgaria, etc., for rehome in Britain. I've seen them advertised. I believe Many Tears Dog Rescue takes some.
