Default Whats going on?! From DC!!

Its cold, but that was just a random thought!!

I'm currently sitting in Afghanistan, and have about 3 days until I leave for heading back home.

I have always wanted to get a dog every since leaving the family dogs. Due to working/school I didn't think I had enough time for a pup, and couldn't do that to 'em! So I had been supplementing my time and heading down to the ASPCA to volunteer my time, and that was well worth it.

I found out I will now have enough time/not deploying again, so I made the decision I to FINALLY get my pup!!

I will be getting a Beauceron!! I'll post a recent pic of the little cutie, though I don't have a name for her as of yet, waiting for my muse.

I did have a question about the breeder/shots though. I asked about shots and stuff and here is what she told me, anything else like this I need to make sure isnt sketchy? It seems I dont have a very large choice in breeder for my pup since they are not to common in the US.

"They will have a parvo only at 5 wks and distemper/parvo combo at 8 wks, They are wormed weekly. The contract is a health guarantee."

Is there any other shot she should have from the breeder, or is this normal? I am just kind of bugging out since they are in MO and me being in DC, I will be driving up to NYC to pick her up while they are in Madison Square for a dog show. (it sucks trying to do it all online :*(. )

I know I have been rambling on, sorry about that (as well as the horrible sentence structure!!) I just had to tell someone though, since it seems the family doesn't really care .

**Also, if your looking for puppy play dates later on once all shots are done, that would be awesome!

Welcome to DF and I'm so looking forward to hearing all about your puppy. I bet those 3 days won't come fast enough for you. Good to hear that you won't be deployed again. Have a safe trip home.

Welcome Bro Sir On, glad to have you aboard :-) That is an adorable pup! Congratulations, it must be hard having to wait until the end of the month. I'm anxious to hear what names you are considering for her. Looking forward to hearing much more about her (and you, of course), and to seeing many more pictures. Glad to hear you are on your way home and thank you for your service :-)

Welcome to the forum! I can't wait to see pictures of your new pup! Welcome home, and thanks for your dedicated services.
As far as the shots go, it does seem to vary by breeder, but what you mentioned in your post is about right. You should set up an appointment with your vet when the pup is 12 weeks old. Most good breeders do sell their pups with a contract that does include a health guarantee. You will want your vet to do a complete exam, and make sure you take all your paper work from the breeder, with you. I'm sure the vet will want you to take along a stool sample, so they can check for parasites. My pup already came microchipped from the breeder, but not all breeders do that. If she isn't microchipped, the vet can do that while you are there. I would recommend you have her microchipped.
Beauceron's are stunning dogs. They kind of remind me a a small GS. I can't say I have ever seen one outside a dog show. They are very popular in France, and are the perfered hearding breed.

Thanks for that info, Ill make sure to get the vet to make sure everything is good to go! Ill be getting her chipped, hopefully not crazy expensive, also looks like Ill get pet insurance for her since 50/ seems to just about anything from spay to teeth. I agree, they are beautiful dogs, I am infatuated with em.

Okay yall, so I know I might be getting in ahead of myself, but I am already looking into furute training for her. I was looking at

Northern Virginia Dog Trainers | Off Leash Dog Training

Anyone have any experience with them? I am also looking to get her/my SAR qualification, I have my SCUBA one, would be nice to have this as well.

Hey there and welcome to the dogforum!

I am going to be hands down blunt... Those people should not touch your puppy..

e collar training is not positive.. The beuceron which I have had the luck to get to work with as a dogtrainer is a high strung breed. To use punitive training and surpressing training (e collars are both) will create a rather unstable dog. If you want to do SAR your dog will need to be able to work independently, when using an e collar you actually create the opposite no matter what those people say.

My dog is trained with treats, praise and toys, I can have her off leash anywhere at anytime.. she is a rottweiler mix..

When using electrical stimulant what happens is you create a fear in the dog of the pain to go too far, lash out or whatever else it is they are doing wrong. However, you do not have true obedience on your dog, if you remove said stimulus you can no longer control your animal.

You need to find a good k9 trainer that works with positive reinforcement, behavioral capturing, shaping etc ONLY... Yes I correct dogs when doing wrong, but 1. I correct with a mild ah ah, or No, and 2. as soon as the animal do the correct thing as a response to the correction I quickly reward the right behavior.

Any trainer using e collar as NOTHING but last resort should be avoided...
