Default The catastrophe arrives!

Hello friends!

Vagreys invited me to this here forum. He always goes on about it.
The only thing is that I do not own a dog. However I do own two lovely American short hairs by the name, Cheezeburgur and LOL.

They are rescue cats that my husband and I adopted two years ago.
Both loving darlings but just like dogs, required a lot of work to re adjust.

I've read a lot about dog training techniques and I've successfully trained my cat Cheezeburger to : Box, shake, high five, fist bump, play dead, high ten, sit and more.
Little lol is very shy, so she only learned to sit and lay down.

I'd say that I have the most well behaved cats in the world! They do not scratch on things they are not supposed to, they do not eat plants and nor do they steal food.
They do not jump up on counters or even run outside when the door is wide open.
I've also been an avid donator of cat equipment and money for both cats/dog rescue organizations. I've helped some with graphical art work and volunteering my time as much as I can.

I do plan on adopting a dog one day. I am still researching what breed would work best for me.
But right now I am focusing mostly on cats. I hope to one day own a Maine Coon.
Also my mom has two very bratty dogs that I'll need to retrain, so once I start, all suggestions will be welcome!

Except for cats, I spend a lot of time with my husband, taking long walks and just enjoying each others company.

Anywho, this is a little bit about me! I'll end it here and I am looking forward of being part of this community!

Cheezy

Lol

Welcome Crazycatlady :-) If Vagreys recommended you, you come with great references
Cheezy and LOL are adorable, I'm curious how you pronounce "LOL"s name. We have a number cat owners on the forum so I'm sure you'll fit right in.

Thanks!
We pronounce it Lawl m
Both of them respond mostly to KITCHIIIIII (really high pitches squeeky).
We call her by name "Oh Lawl" when when she is being silly!
With cheezeburguer we go mostly "It aint easy being Cheezy"

I've recently trained cheesy to walk with a harness on and a leach pretty successfully. Lol however wasnt as pleased. She didn't protest, but she insisted that I carry her, as she refused to walk with the harness on.
I'd even say that she went a bit "Cat"atonic

Haha, yes people have asked me if I am sure that I do not own some odd undiscovered dog species.
I assure you, these are 100% cats.
They were just raised the same way as one would raise a dog.
Even cats need guidelines if you wish them to grow up to be good kitties.

I started this mainly as an experiment to see if it could be done. I've read about people training their cats, but never actually "seen" anyone do it.
The common way to raise a cat is to let it raise itself. If you let a puppy do that, you'll end up with unwanted traits. Best to start early, be consistent and make it fun!

I used to assume myself that cats couldn't be trained. When I started helping and adopting cats, most common respond i'd get is "I am not adopting a cat, they are boring and to stupid to be trained". That is when I set up this experiment when I rescued two kittens. To prove that you can use the same techniques as you do on dogs and get the same result.

Of course cats have their unique personalities. Like my LOL is very shy, so she is a bit of a hassle to train, but it can be done. Different cat breeds come with their own personal traits. Some harder to train then others.

I hope to train a Maine Coon one day

Thank you for your welcome and yes, just like all other cats, they flipp out at times and keep me well on my toes

You can never train away the crazy cat hour !

Welcome to the forum! I have a 2 year old black cat, Spooky. He was a stray kitten that we took in around Holloween, hence the name. I used to own a cattery many years ago. Maine Coon's are very cool cats. They are very large beautiful cats, often called "the puppy dog cat," because their behavior is more dog like than cat.
