Red face Hello From The Rockies - CO

Hello all!
It's been entirely too many years since I've owned a dog, I'd like to say about four but I honestly don't want to count. I'm a 22 year old mom to one 18 month old, stay at home mom, who just recently added an eight month old miniature pinscher to our family. We just bought a house, even though we don't live there yet, we will in like 21 days (who's counting... not me honestly... ok you got me!) I grew up with horses and always had several dogs (my mom currently has 14 on her huge farm!) This is the first one I've ever acquired by an ad (usually they are dropped off or we find them at vet's offices tied to a post, tire shops, or just strays that manage to find their way to my mom's farm) and secondly the first one I've ever paid for. I feel awful for adopting her as I know there are several in SPCA that could use a great home... Anyways, just had to get that off my chest. A little about Roxxy (yes two x's hubby demanded it!) she is an eight month old solid red min pin with her ears cropped and tail docked. I don't know much about her past except that the previous owner treated her like a diva and she still has an amazing temperament. The previous owner claimed she is up to date on shots... I won't get into that, as I know it's a controversial topic.

I haven't had her for even 24 hours yet and I'm trying to discover some good min pin or small breed puppy regulations such as a) how often to feed her and how much? b) how often does she need to go outside? It's getting very cold and she shivers so much when she is out, I don't want to take her out more than necessary as winter is quickly approaching. I will be purchasing her a coat and shoes for her paws next Tuesday (payday and Hubby's day off) as Petco is an hour away, all we have close is Safeway and Walmart. Secondly she has this hacking cough almost, the best I can describe it is the sounds cats make when they have hairballs. Anyone know what may be causing this? She does it mostly when I take her outside, however after being home and comfy under the blankets late last night she did it again and we hadn't been out in hours. She is on Nutro/Nupro? Natural Small Puppy. When do I switch her to adult? I heard Blue Buffalo Chicken is more ideal for her? Suggestions? Are they comparable in price? I'd like to get her on the best. My prior ferrets use to be on an all natural raw meat diet. I'm open to pointers on that as well. Anyways, I'll stop babbling. Here's a few pictures.

Welcome Fearless, glad you have joined us and how nice to hear that Roxie has found herself a new home! What a cutie she is :-) I do think I would have that cough checked out by her vet just to be sure what it is and how to best treat it. You also might want to have a look at this thread by our resident food expert to help you choose an appropriate food and amounts for Roxie: Vagreys' Kibble Grading System
I'm looking forward to hearing much more about her and seeing tons more pictures :-)

Thanks JGLI, We do have intention to have a basic exam done for her, and get her microchipped, check the cough, etc. My husband is only off two days a week back to back and we have so many appointments for the closing of our new house that it's been hectic deciding on a date but we're trying to get in ASAP as well as research which place we want to use.

The food sub-forum has been so full of information, I am so greatly thankful to have stumbled on it. I have a few questions still but I'll be sure to check there.

I have tons of pictures, but I have yet to capture her as good as I'd like. She is so quick, and she dislikes flash, so I'm trying my best, but I'm sure I'll have plenty soon.

Congratulations on the new house as well! and I understand how crazy closings are... my nephew just went to closing on his new home by the water the day before Hurricane Irene hit! Let's hope yours is a lot less eventful :-) I'm sure Roxie and all of you will be happy to settle in.

Thanks everyone, we're expected to close in three weeks. Until then, I've been taking her on brisk walks around my duplex as we have absolutely no yard and it's been a bit chilly for a long walk. Once we move, she'll have a huge backyard to play in, given the weather is nice. Luckily I'm a stay at home mom and she'll be indoors as often as needed with me.

Fearless, welcome to the forum! Roxxy is a real cutie! For small breeds, it was recommended by my Vet, that they be fed twice a day. I feed my dogs once in the morning and then around dinnertime. Small dogs are prone to low blood sugar. Mave fun in your new house. I'm sure Roxxy is going to love that back yard.

Welcome Fearless! Lots of great people here! Maybe when the sun is out you can turn the flash off.
