Default 5 Year old rescue Shi Tzu

Hello;
We have a delightful little 5 year old Shi Tzu who was languishing in the pound for several months because she's Epileptic. She's on a low dose of Pheno Barb and is stable.
As she's 5 years old we haven't caught on to her habits & likes & dislikes etc.
Any tips from anyone as to how to make the transition easier for her?
So far we're letting her tell us what she wants - this includes wanting to pee at 4 in the morning!!!
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks
Caryl

Caryl, welcome to the Forum! Kudos to you for adopting a dog with special needs. How long have you had her? It sounds like she is already potty trained. What is your pups name, and we would love to see a picture of her.

We've only had Wendy about 10 days and as she's 5 years old it's going to take time for us to get used to each other. Main problem is her tiddling in the house when we're out. She can come and go all day into the garden and she gets walked twice a day.
We have just returned from a quick trip to the shop and there was a smelly present waiting for us!!!
Have to get accustomed to posting pics. They have to go on Photobucket right?
Cheers
Caryl

Welcome Caryl, how wonderful of you to give Wendy a home! You certainly can use Photobucket for pictures, but you can also upload to the gallery here and put pictures in your post either way.

Caryl, you may want to try crate training while you are away. Wendy was in the pound for several months, and it sounds like she needs re-training. Having her in the crate while you are away is a good start. When she does go outside, take some treats with you. When she does her business, give her tons of praise and a treat. Do the same on your walks. Whatever you do, stay away from the wee wee pad training. All it does is tell Wendy it's ok to go in the house. If she does have an accident in the house, don't yell at her. She will have no idea what you are yellling about. She will know you are unhappy, but that's about it. Right now she needs lots of love and attention. I'm sure it was very stressful for her in the pound. Wendy is one lucky dog to now have a forever home!
