Default Sighthound Lady

I am a sighthound fanatic. I enjoy professional Greyhound racing (no, they're not abused... sure get tired of that eternally perpetuated myth that liars like Grey2K make a fortune off of), amateur Greyhound and Whippet racing, showing and coursing Borzoi, doing Greyhound adoptions, hanging out at the track, and educating people about these amazing dogs. Now and then some loser abuses Greyhounds (but not more often than any other breed, and probably less often) and so we're always busy spreading the truth about these happy, loving athletes and the people who dedicate our lives to them.

I usually have at least one foster dog, often a Greyhound, but not always. I also love Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, and other dogs. I've owned/fostered plenty of them, too.

My main squeeze is my 13.5 year old heart dog, a Whippet named Rigby. He's definitely the most amazing dog I've ever had.

Welcome to DF! My landlord has a rescued Greyhound she is very sweet. (though I wish she wasn't living with my landlord who is in her 70s, she cant walk her that well and poor thing doesn't even have a back yard to run in. )
I am trying to convince my landlord to find her a happier home

I wouldn't say the greyhound is in an unhappy home. Without seeing her, I know that Greyhounds are couch potatoes in the house and must be great company for her. If you are concerned about her walking, perhaps you could offer to take her for a walk once in a while.

Although they love to run it is not an absolute necessity that she does as a lot of greyhounds cannot be let off leash unless in a fenced area so I am sure a lot of them do not get to run every day.

Sighthound Lady. I am glad to see someone on here that does not bash Greyhound Racing. No matter what kind of a "sport" you do with dogs or horses, there is always someone who knows nothing about it that knocks it.

I love Greyhounds. In the 60's my husband and I raised Greyhound in B.C. with the intention of racing them. They were also CKC registered so we did show some of them also. At that time they were talking about putting a track in somewhere in Washington but it fell through. We found out that in order to race them at the nearest track to us, we would have to turn them over to a trainer and couldn't race them ourselves. Time dragged on and we couldn't find a suitable trainer so we ended up finding good homes for them. We did do a little coursing with a drag lure with them which was lots of fun.

Two of them that we sold to Ontario ended up being the top Obedience Greyhounds at that time, one even had his tracking degree. I would like to get another one at some time and see how they would do in Agility which I am doing now with my little Shih Tzu x Maltese. Welcome to the forum.

That is great, thank you!!! Yes, I get weary of it. Everyone I know in Greyhounds makes very little money, works hard, and loves the dogs. You do this for the love of the sport and these amazing athletes!!!!

Yes, Greyhounds are lazy dogs and they do not always need a lot of exercise. Some do, some do not! They are good apartment dogs.

Good luck with agility- some very nice Greyhounds do agility. I placed a litter of oops Greyhound puppies (not my oops... I got them at five weeks of age) and three of the four are in agility performance homes! They are only five months old but are training very nicely. Also there are others who do agility with their hounds.

Mine do coursing and oval track racing... and are super pets! Greyhounds are awesome dogs and they're so great because of the time and care and love that goes into raising them.

OH I def agree but the apt she lives in is small, and she is starting to poop in the house cause Miss Joan has mild med issues that make her sleep through barking ect. Its not her dog to begin with anyway, her Daughter left her mother with her dog and two cats while she is in Bulgaria for work.. a permanent thing.
anywho its not a Dire situation, I think the Ember is happy, but she is to much dog for Joan to handle.

I have never been to a greyhound Race, don't really know that much about, you should post some videos!

You would have to go to West Virginia to see the dogs run, sadly, they are trying to shut down every track (the animal rights nuts). It is quite a thrill to see (and hear) them thundering past. The wagging tails and huge smiles say it all...

This is my Whippet racing

Here is my old senior Whippet (sleeping fawn dog) being doted on by two young Greyhounds
