HI and welcome

You say you jsut adopted him and he is apprehensive? Well what if a flying saucer landed on earth, scooped you up and took off with you in it? This is kind of like what your dog thinks just happened.

So try to stick to a routine, understand that he is scared (don't have loud people around him for at least a week) and leave him be when he wants to be alone or hide. Make sure he has a 'safe place' somewhere under a desk or in a crate. With love and patience he will come around.

He looks handsome. Patience and consistency will probably bring him around in no time. Welcome!

Hi yankeenica....
You got him from a shelter....give him time to adjust and learn to trust you. You don't know what kind of background he has..possible he was abused. With kindness and love he should come out of his shell. After a few weeks when he settles in think about obedience class. It... will..... help form a bond and show him his place in your pack. Good luck and just have patience....

I recently adopted a one year old male sheltie and it took about 3 months for him to settle in. He now runs all over the house, loves to play with the kids, and enjoys his new life! My advice would be to get him an exercise pen or a crate for him to go into when he needs alone time. I would give him 2 or 3 weeks to get settled in and then take him to an obedience class. This really helped with Ditto..He loves going to "school". I think that with apprehensive dogs, we tend to baby them too much. Definatly give him a few weeks to get used to you and then get him out socializing! Good luck!
