Default Hi new member from Washington State

Bear is a 4 year old Flat Coated Retriever that we rescued last year after our wonderful Golden Retriever Charlie passed away. Bear is full of energy and acts more like a puppy than a 5 year old. We live in Allyn, WA and spend our winters on the Texas gulf coast.

Hi Hottip, welcome! How wonderful of you to give Bear a home! I'm looking forward to hearing much more about him and hopefully seeing some pictures too :-)

Welcome Hottip and Bear. I've visited Washington when I was young and living in B.C. Beautiful country side there. Never been to the Gulf coast though. Definately on the to do list though.

Hi, We've been wintering in Texas for the last 5 years. We had a 5th wheel but my wife complained that with a 165# Newfoundland and a 80# Golden there wasn't any people room so we bought a condo outside of Corpus Christi. I miss Washington so we head home in March. All of our dogs were well traveled. We've been lucky that all the dogs we have rescued haven't gotten car sick.

Man oh man that is where I want to be. I have a retired friend who lives way up in northern Ontario and come the Spring, travels with his wife to alsorts of Bluegrass concerts and outdoor events down here in southern Ontario and into the US. Of course his trusted pooch rides along with him all the way.

Now I prefer to do that sort of thing but I want to take the slow boat. From Toronto, where I am you can sail via the Great Lakes to Chicago and into the Inter coastal Waterway, south all the way to the Gulf then round the Florida pan handle and back up the Atlantic coast to either cut through New York or further north around Nova Scotia and take the St Lawrence back to Toronto. It's called the Great Loop.

I think I would like to spend my days putting along looking at the country side and having a cold one with the folks we meet in the warm winter months down in the Gulf rather than sitting through many more frozen, blizzard ice covered Canadian winters. While it makes a nice Christmas card, I've had about my fill of them.

One of the major concerns, other than those incidental life and death ones, are how our dog will take sea sickness. He has been on boats before but anytime the water gets a bit rough we always head in. Small craft is his only experience really.

Are you a boater? You sure have the right spot for it down there.
