Default And it's a Hello from me..... at last

I thought I was having problems with the newest arrival in the family, but you've all put my mind at ease - in comparison to some we seem to be doing just great!

They're both from The Blue Cross.

Dennis, the brown/brindle GSD-cross is the old fella, 11 years (and without a doubt the best dog in the world! ). He's not terribly happy about the young up-start but there's been no fur flying so far!

Tilda, the new comer GSD-Rottie cross is 11 months old, will be 1 year October 31st (Hallowe'en seemed a better birth date than All Saints Day).

Thanks! Dennis is the kindest, sweetest dog. I think he was beaten in his previous home because he flinched at hoses, belts & raised arms for the first two years after we got him & he hates any kind of rough-housing between people. Even people shaking hands seems to get him started, he'll stand up & bark at whoever is shaking hands! (actually I think I'll start a thread about that)

Tilda was a stray, picked up the council & then put in The Blue Cross, which was very lucky for her. She's a rascal, but it's been years since I've had a puppy & I think I've glossed over all the mischief they can get into.

I think Dennis plays a game with us - whereby in our presence he doesn't like her, but I've caught him off-guard a few times! We've recently started leaving them alone together & that seems to be working. I've seen no evidence of fighting or changed behaviour.

They are a pet charity, been around since the mid-19th century. If I remember correctly they started as a charity to look after horses who had been used in wars.

Amongst other things, they run some rescue shelters & their policy is never to put an animal down, hence the comment that Tilda was lucky to have gone to them. You must sign a contract stating that any animal adopted through them must go back to them if you can no longer care for it.

The adoption process can be lengthy, many visits & walks at the shelter & they do a home visit. They used to make you have the dog for a day at home then a few days later one overnight at home, but discovered problems with liability insurance or some such, so they had to stop that part of the process.
