Default Hello Everyone!

Hello everyone, my name is Michael. I am from Mcminnville, oregon. i'm 23 years old, and this is my first dog.

His name is Oscar.

Original owners say he is Border-Aussie

but his papers say hes just aussie.

A little background on my best friend.

The company I work for was rebuilding an indoor riding arena that had collapsed over last winter. And they had a dog that tended to the horses,
My dog now.

The owners said they had to get rid of him because they were moving to hawaii, and had no reason for a herding dog anymore.

So after weeks of being at this job, I started noticing things.
"This is the water hes drinking?!?!... its brown!!!"
"wheres your other toe?"
"Why is he limping?"
"why are all your teeth broken?"

Further conversation with his former owners made the decision for me.
This dog needs a better home.
It was either me or the shelter..

I was shocked after the research I did.
The food he was being fed is infamous for killing dogs.

Ol' Roy..........

This dog would limp after every couple times I threw the ball for him.
barley made it up the stairs, and could not get on the bed.
Had so many knots it looked as if he had never been brushed.
he chewed on wood so much that he broke every tooth in half, they look like all molars now.
He was steped on and kicked by the arabians on the ranch.
And really he just looked like they did not care about him.
Hes only 7, I thought he was pretty beat up for his age.

So after the rescue, things changed for him.

Now he eats a strict regiment of Nutro Large breed adult.
he gets a bath once a week, and is brushed every day.

Now 4 months later

The change was amazing
He has a new lease on life.
Has not limped in months, has a healthier coat and skin.

And overall has a happier mentality.

Like I said he is my first dog, and I truly understand now why rescuing is so important.

Before him I was a lamen. Did not know how bad "grocery store brands" are for dogs.

And i'm sure his former owners did not know either.

I know i'm new and all.

But if anyone takes anything from this story, please just do whats best for your pet, even if it is not the best for you.

and if anyone has any helpful tips on dog care, please pass them my way.
I'm tryin to make his life amazing.

Thank you all

That's such a cute story. Congrats on your dog and keep up the great work. I just rescued my 'first' dog (i've had dogs that were mine but also the families. Now i'm on my own it's for real all my responsibility). I live in Utah so we're no too far either not as close as techie though :]
