More bannings...UGH!!! I can tell you honestly I have little to no experience with the breed at all. My old neighbors used to have one and he was a very friendly dog. But I only ever seen him when we were outdoors as we were not that social with the neighbors.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Great to have you with us. I do hope you'll post lots of pics as Akitas are one of my favorite breeds.

I absolutely love the breed. I had a gorgeous Akita in the 80-90s who was the most gentle dog I've ever had. He considered himself the protector of all furry things (especially loved the littlest ones).

Breed bannings — argh! I hate to hear that & especially hate that such a lovely breed is included in such nonsense.

Looking forward to meeting your dogs too so I'm looking forward to seeing some pics.

Hi and welcome tto the forum from me and my Gang in Bonnie Scotland, just been reading more about the Ban by Dublin City Council in this week's "Dog World "!, where it says 10 breeds are to be banned they are:

The Bull Terrier
Ths Staffordshirte Bull Terrier
Rottweiler
Gerrman Shepherd
Dobermann
Rhodesian Ridgeback
Japanese Akita
Bull Mastiff
Japaneser Tossa
American Pit Bull Terrier.

It also reads
The authority says "bandogs" are also outlawed and associated crossbreeds and strains.

Owners are to be given an undefineed "resonable time" to rehome their dogs, but if alternative accommodation cannot be found the animals will be seized by wardens and destroyed.

I personally think it is a disgrace there are good and bad in every breed so all have to be punished because of the behaviour of a few and most times it is not the dog to blame but an irresponsible owner.

Just quoting the above for the benefit of our overseas members who will possibly not be aware of the ban.

Hi timndoherty and

I am not aware of any breed bans around where I live (northeastern US) however it is possible to have your homeowner's / liability insurance cancelled for owning "certain breeds"-that is unless this practice has been outlawed in the state of residence.

im curious as to how Rhodesians made it on that list..... they are not bred to be people or dog agressive, they were bred to live in packs and are known for their excellent temperment around children and people alike because they live in large villages without restriction... this is the first time i have heard of a sighthound being banned anywhere....
