Lightbulb Have you heard of a Boxador?

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and am looking for some expertise in identifying an approximate breed for my rescue doggie. When she was adopted at 11 mos. from a private rescue, they said she was a lab/shepherd mix. When we took her to the vet for her first visit, they agreed. (She's 15 mos. now)

While my fiancé was out with Libby today, someone stopped him and asked about her breed. The gentleman said his dog looked just like Libby and his was a Boxer/Lab mix, a Boxador. This made us wonder and we Googled images. Sure enough, a lot of the tan Boxadors look a lot like our sweetheart.

What do you think? Opinions, expert or otherwise are welcome!

Welcome SmartyLib, great to have you join us and kudos to you for giving Libby a home. She's a lovely girl :-) We have had a few threads on boxadors that you might be interesting in reading. If you type in boxador in the white search box at the upper right hand corner of any page, a list of those threads will come up. Then just click on the thread(s) you would like to read. Looking forward to hearing more about Libby and seeing many more pictures :-)

Thank you all so much for your responses! We are definitely getting used to each other. Turns out she is a very shy dog around anyone except her mom (me), which was not how she was behaving the day I adopted her. Of course, she was extremely stressed and behaving accordingly, but I thought she was the most calm dog.

Chewing: She is a very heavy chewer and most non-Kong toys don't last more than 1 hour *seriously*. We bought her something called the Game Changer; it's a 2-piece treat dispenser that's made of a similar material as a Kong) and she really likes it but she has figured out how to open the disc hahahahahaha. She's smarter than I prefer her to be sometimes lol.

Anyone have toy suggestions for a heavy chewer? She loves squeaking toys but the squeaker is usually the first thing that goes once she gets into it.

Hi You could try a boomer ball if she has finished teething they are indestructable and come in various sizes too Oh BTW Stuffed toys are history within mins!!! Kongs last a little longer but are gone within days. My Staffy can't destroy the boomer ball she has had this for over 3 years now!!! You can get them direct from www.boomerball.com or Amazon Good luck

Thanks for the warm welcome. My little Libby is a very shy dog and it's nice to be on a forum of knowledgeable dog lovers. My fiancé wanted a dog really badly (I like dogs but have enough responsibility in my life lol) and when we bought a home on almost an acre, it seemed like the next natural step. Little did I know that adopting am 11 mo old dog with shyness issues would be another job in and of itself.

The woman from whom I adopted her said she was found by the shelter running alone at about 6 mos. old. She has quite a few small facial scars so I'm not sure if she was crated or if she had to fight. The woman said she had Libby for about 5 months and that she lived comfortably with the 10+ other dogs she rescues/fosters. She also mentioned that Libby was always pegged to her side, much like she is to mine.

Based on some of Libby's behavior, we thought she was abused and hired a professional trainer. [More info: She barked and growled at my fiancé for months until she warmed up to him more recently. If he approaches me while I'm sleeping (when he;s getting ready for work in the morning and coming to say goodbye), she growls at him. I immediately get her off the bed and this helps--she does it much less frequently.]

I work from home, so I had hoped her calm demeanor would be easy enough to deal with. She has opened up a lot and she's no longer the uber-calm doggie she was. She is more uneasy with strangers than ever before. Could this be because of her attachment to me?

We take her to doggie daycare a few days a week so she can stay socialized with other dogs but she's still shy around other people.

Any suggestions?
