hi there!
today I visited a really nice family to have a look at their puppies. they are 85% german shepherd and 25%wolf, so they are wolf hybrids(mother half wolf half shepherd, father german shepherd). this is not my first dog and I have experience with difficult breeds. so I had a close look at the whole family. owner, mother dog, father dog and puppies. there is one puppy I really like, the only thing that stopped me from taking it home right away was that the puppy kind of stared deep into my eyes for a long time. the puppy did that evey time I picked it up from the ground. after the starring it licked my face, so I thought it wouldn't be such a big deal, but as this puppy is also a little bit shy, the others aren't, I decided to think about it more. it wasn't hiding or something, but it did seem a little bit uncomfortable with an unknown person in the room. when I first entered the room it came to greet me, but then it prefered to watch me from some distance. it didn't run away when I walked close by and it also had no problems to be picked up from the ground. could it be that it was just tired?(i came just after they had lunch and playtime) the mother and the father are both great and friendly dogs. especially the mother was really nice and without fear. the owner is really taking great care of his animals and doesn't want to have a dollar for his puppies. he just wants to stay in contact with us to see the puppies from time to time in the future. what do you think about that behaviour? is here anybody who has experience with choosing a hybrid puppy? I just can't find a lot about "hybrid puppy starring" in the internet. I really searched a lot and all the hybrid info sites don't mention this problem at all Thanks! |

Hi Sofadog and welcome to the forum.
I agree with chaz that Fede will be able to give you good advice as she has a tremendous amount of personal experience and knowledge of high content wolfdogs.

@all
thanks! I can not wait to meet fede. when does she normally show up in the forum or can I contact her somehow? sorry if this question might be a stupid question, but I am new here... ![]() @honeyb 7weeks . they have been already separated from the mother.geez! if this beautiful puppy wouldn't be 25% wolf then I would have to put more afford into the socializing part, but I wouldn't have to be so careful. as soon as there is a wolf in the dog you have to check everything 1000 times before really taking the puppy home... @techie
what you said is really nice! ![]() I am really happy! this is not the first dog forum I have been to, but so far the friendliest! normally people in forums love to attack you for no reasons and you spend all the time defending yourself. in the end you are just tired and didn't even get one useful answer! I think I like it here! ![]() |

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.. It sounds very sweet, and it would not surprise me if a wold dog puppy is a bit more shy than a regular pup due to it's mix.. However to be taken at the age of 7 weeks is that still suggesteable? For a puppy that is 1-2 weeks crucial socialisation with their littermates, or does that change in a mix? I would be a bit careful on that part and do some more research on it before taking it home. Cause if it's shy it might go more shy cause of it.. just a thought... good luck and I hope tog et to see some cute pictures soon ![]()
