Default German Shepherd/Lab

Hello,
Does anybody here have a german shepherd/lab dog?
My room-mate is looking for a dog and he asked me to do some research for him into this mixed breed. Any info regarding temperment, sizes, etc would really be appreciated.

Thank you

I don't have this mix, but that mix could have any percentage of the breeds in them, look more like one then the other, and have more of one breeds temperament then the other, so it will just be knowing the temperament, sizes, etc of each breed, and expecting anything that you find out about them.

Your were the best dog that anyone could wish for, I hope that you are enjoying yourself at the bridge. You were the perfect dog in a imperfect world, and I hope that you feel better where you are now, and please forgive me.

i have one of these, see pic and there more pics on my profile i think.

he is about 37kg, big and strong, but gentle and very loving thinks he can still sit oin my lap. good generally with other dogs and people/children.

but a neighbour has one and she is completly different, alot smaller but no where near as friendly as max is. he loves to swim and do agility, they do need mental stimulation as well as physical exercise.

if i missed anything just ask and i'll try to answer.

Thank you for the reply. I was wondering what your opinion is...do you think your dog is friendlier by the way he was brought up as a puppy or is it a hit or miss with any dog/breed.

The reason I ask is because I have 4 of my own dogs. They are all about the same size and they all get along very very well. They are all hounds as well. Since german shepherds and labs are such a bigger breed, I worry a little about the rest of the pack if they grow up to be not as friendly.

I too have a lab x GSD. He looks much like a lab, but bigger and more athletic looking. Temperament wise he is fabulous, yes this is I believe the product of upbringing (heaps of socialisation and training) as well as genetics (his Mum the GSD was lovely natured - naughty lab up the road presumed to be his Dad we didn't meet). He is very lab-like in his playful nature and love of life, but has the activity level and drive of the GSD and can boisterous. When younger he could scale fences effortlessly but didn't ever try to get out unless I was the other side of the fence in sight. Sadly both labs and GSDs can be prone to HD and my dog started to show signs of HD at around five years old. Since it was an unintentional mating no testing was done, and is a factor you should consider before going ahead with your purchase.

I once saw a litter purebred parents - one GSD, one black lab. Some pups were solid black, some black/tan. Full grown - every one looked different. Smallest weighed in at 40 lbs, largest at 90. (not overweight either - both parents about 70-80 lbs) All varying temperaments too

My Lab/GSD topped the scales at 120 lbs. She herded anything she could - wonderful dog!

I have this mix , she ended up being smaller than I expected and has a bit of a nervous personality . I got her at around 13 weeks old and am convinced that she had a bad experience of some sort because all of my other dogs have been extremely well balanced and we have had nothing but good times not to mention her big brother Baron(a rottie mix) is about as level headed as they come .

I will try to revisit this thread and pop a couple of pics in as soon as I can but the holidays will delay this for a day or two .

btw - Schatzi , the GSD/Lab is about 55 lbs (that's right I said lbs , I'm American-LOL)kind of a midget to me , but she's mine

agree with what kaos said and watch for hip displasia, max was diognosed at 18 months, although at 7 and a half we just retiring to vetran in agility.

think training is alot max was 5 weeks old when i got know and he was well socialised with people and canine and feline.

I have a labrador / alsatian cross. His mum was a black labrador, and his dad a short-haired Alasatian. He was one of 9 puppies, they were all pure black and looked like black labradors.
He is now 5 1/2 months old and stands nearly knee-high. He weighed 30lb last week, and he seems to put on 1lb every week. I'm not sure how big he will get, his dad was very tall. He looks like a black labrador, but he is leaner, less stocky. He also has a longer nose, like an Alsatian. He is very clever, and learns quickly. I have heard both these breeds are very intelligent.

My Susie is a lab/shep with enough husky in her to make her markings different. Most people think she is shep/husky by her looks but a couple of her litter mates looked just like yellow labs!

Susie is smart and good tempered and has been super easy to train - I have no idea how her litter-mates turned out. She's 50 lbs at just over a year and shows no more signs of growing. I did take the time to socialize her with people and other dogs when she was younger but I also think she is very sweet tempered by nature.
