I say no..

1. You have THOUSANDS of puppies and homeless dogs out there that can't find a home. If the dog dont give something to a breed, there is plenty enough of mixed breeds already.

2. It's a VERY strong dog, studd him and he might be possessive about females, possible male dog aggression etc so a former dog that was a sweetheart can be a pain to deal with. Which is less fun.

I can honestly see no reason to create more mixes, you have no genetic background don't know how the genes will hit, it's hard enough to do with pure breeds a mix is even worse. And it's hard to find good homes to mixed breed pups of a working kind which means theyw ould probably not have it as good as they would deserve. Which I would have gnawing on my consience.

BUT this is just me..

Uhm why would you consider "studding" a mixbreed? As Monkey notes, and if you'll check your HS there are just a world full of mutts waiting for homes. Will you be having him evaluated by both breed wardens? Will you be doing the genetic studies for both breeds? Hips/elbow X-Ray, VWB disease, CERF, BAER, etc? It's a tad more than just sticking a bitch in with a male - at least it is if you honestly care.

You can alter now, there isn't any reason to wait.

dauxside...cannot alter yet as this pup is in uk and we dont spay females or snip males til atleast 6 months unless for serious medical reasons, and the rotti/boxer pup is only 2 months.

also i agree there is no reason to breed from a mix, there are plenty of mixes around already that cant get homes in rspca, dogs trust rehoming centers already. so when the time comes, please get your pup 'done' and just enjoy him as a unique individual!!!

good luck, he is a lovely looking pup x

Actually more and more vets are having animals done a 5/6 weeks now, I was reading about it yesterday in the UK. It's a small number, around 50 a year right now, but its growing.

I personally would think it a bad idea to use a crossbreed as a stud dog, does the world really need more crossbreeds? Look at the rescue centres/shelters around you, and you should have your answer.

Can't see any reason to use a crossbreed as a Stud Dog. So my answer like the others is a big NO.

thanks for that info re:early spaying in uk...i dont know if i feel comfortable with the idea of dong it so early...i will have to think about it a bit more, but all i can think is going back to when ruby was that young (i got her at 8wks) i think she had enough to go through at that time without going through a spay aswell...house training, settling into new home, innoculations etc...but as i say i will try and keep an open mind for now and look into it...

ahh I see... well it is a wise decision to snip him. There are so many unwanted dogs out there so it is just horrible.. Here in the US they say that approx 40 000 dogs get put to sleep everyday cause noone wants them..

once i get my own place (i live with my mom at the moment) i will only get rescue dogs, at the moment we have a cat and two dogs and if we got a rescue dog we would have to make sure he got on with all animals and small children,we tryed to get a rescue dog before we got mason but the shelter messed us around!
