Hi am new to this forum and have a question about this cross.
My friends Lhasa got caught in the park by a Yorkie and has had pups. My friend wants to know if these pups could have anything wrong with them genetically tho the vet says theyr all in good health. I am thinking about having one of them as she doesnt want to sell them just for them to go to good homes. Thanks Tracy |

There's no way to tell in advance if they'll develop health problems as they get older.
If both parents are healthy now; the odds the puppies will grow up healthy are better than if either or both of the parents have existing health problems. No one; not even a vet can predict the future health of any puppy. If both parents are healthy, you might as well go ahead and take a chance. Hope the pup makes you a wonderful and healthy pet!

Hi Tracy and welcome to the forum.
I agree with applesmom about the health of the parents ebing the most important factor. For whatever it is worth, (which is probably nothing ) there are people out there who are deliberately mixing these two breeds.http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/yorkieapso.htm At least the two breeds are not all that far apart from each other in terms of size, muzzle shape etc. I'd go by what the vet says. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies. Yeah I have looked at those type of pages but I don't think I would have deliberately set out to get that kind of dog. That kind of breeding shouldnt really happen its like doing it to charge people more money or something. I have wanted a dog for ages so this has kinda fallen into my lap and am so glad he has. I've been round to visit and picked the smallest of the litter cos he's so picked on
He'll only be ready in a few weeks so need to get my house and garden ready for him ( fix fence and get a gate) can't wait til he's here.Sorry got a bit carried away there Thanks again xx |

Don't be anxious to get your puppy particularly if he is the smallest. The pups should stay with their mother a minimum of eight weeks so they get a good start. When you get the puppy take it into the Vet to set up a schedule for its shots and it should be wormed a couple of times before you get it.

Yeah the pups are only three weeks at present so I won't be bringing him home until the first week of may at the earliest. My friend has already had them to the vet and set up their first vaccination and I will get the subsequent ones needed. How often should they be wormed? thats the only thing am not that sure of but was going to ask my vet when I take him in.
