Actually, I’m very fond of Czechoslovakian wolfdogs. They are my favorite breed along with the White Swiss Shepherd, and I seriously think I’ll get one soon enough.
I also think these are not dogs for everyone, that’s the reason why I haven’t bought my puppy yet. What some of you say is true, some people get a wolfdog because it’s cool to have one, these are the irresponsible people who are bound to do a lot of damage to this beautiful breed, and to make a lot of dogs suffer. Some of them get their puppy, then they realize they are not able to handle it as soon as it reaches maturity, and give it away.
Then there are people who likes to play breeder, privates who get a male and a female and think they are capable to plan a serious litter, and they just manage to damage the slow, delicate process of producing both beautiful and healthy dogs which also have a good character. This is a very hard task for a wolfdog breed, they want them to look like wolves, but also want a easy and obedient dog, which is not always possible. Actually, the recent generations here in Europe are quite good, both physically and in temperament, and this is quite a good result.
I love this breed because it IS hard to handle, because it challenges you, because you have to work hard and with extreme coherence and firmness to gain it’s respect, because if it comes to love and respect you, if you are a good owner enough, it’s forever, and it’s bound with the leader is incredible, almost crazy. They are more intelligent than the average dog, I know of Czechoslovakian wolfdogs that open the doors of the cars, or doors closed with bolts and other amazing things…but they are not easy to train. They know how to solve problems very well, but they grow bored of repetitive exercises …
They are free spirts, but they can overcame every instinct and ignore every one of their needs because of their owner and leader. I think they are awesome, but I also wish people would think twice before getting one of these dogs, really...
I would add one more thing: these dogs have been breed to improve the working capabilities of the German Shepherd. Actually, Czechoslovakian are physically superior to dogs, ‘cause they have more resistance (they can run for 100 km without show fatigue, for example, or jump walls almost three meters high!) and extremely tuned senses, but they does not make good working and utility dogs. This is because they share a strong and special bound only with one person, they cannot be trained by someone to be handed to someone else to work, they just don’t work this way.

I think, personally, if I were looking for a "wolfdog" I'd go with a Ute.

On the other hand, I was watching "This is Emily Yeung" the other day, and she was hugging a Wolf.

Makes me wonder about the unmanagability of Wolves as compared the the unmanagability of "wolfdogs"
