Question Possible Beauceron X

Hello all, I am new to the forum. I am seeking your expertise on the possibility of my pup being a Beauceron X. Recently I decided that I was going to rescue another pup, so I headed down to my local SPCA to see what I could find. I must say I was delighted with what I found. They had just recently received a group of four 12 week old siblings from northern Saskatchewan. One had the color of a yellow lab, 2 resembled German Shepherds, and my favorite out of the pack looked like a lab shepherd cross but had a coat colored like a rott or dobie. Needless to say I brought my Jimi home about a week later.

Anyways Jimi had double dew claws on his hind legs, which sadly we had removed last week due to the second set of dews being loose and floppy. A couple of days ago I was doing some research on dogs with double dew claws and found a list of breeds that commonly have double dew claws, due to selective breeding many many years ago. In this list I found the Beauceron, a breed that until now I had never heard of. I found many pictures of Beaucerons that in many ways resembled Jimi.

That brings me to why I am here. I am wondering if there are any Beauceron owners, or people who are familiar with the breed that could have a look at my pup and tell me what they think? Thanks to anyone that can provide me with their input!

Hello Welcome to the forum!

Double dew's can occur as a genetic mutation when several dogs get mixed. He MIGHT be a cross.. But he looks more like a shepherd mix with lab or something.

However, we can not say for sure, best bet would be a genetic test and even they are a little weird at times...

BUT whatever he is.. He is cute as a button..

You will be able tell a little better when he is older but as Beaucerons are not very common it is more likely that he is a cross of the more common breeds like Lab, Shepherd, and Doberman, maybe even all three.

He looks like he is going to be a good looking dog and welcome to the forum.
