Talking I saw a Irish water spaniel for the first time.

I couldn't believe it I had never met one before, but I was walking along a river where there was a boat race so I spent some time there and started heading back when I saw a dog, I was like that looks like a Irish water spaniel, but I bet it isn't, and then I saw it wagging a bold tail, and that was it, then I went straight over to the owners and it was and the dog, who was called Jasper was abosluty gorgeous, a nut case and so friendly I was in love with him. Although the owners did have to have him on a short lead and a halti to keep him out off the water and chasing the boats lol.

I never knew there was such a breed. What a thrill for you Chaz. He sounds cheeky. I guess you are going to pinch him too. LOL

Outside of the show ring I've only ever seen an Irish Water Spaniel once when I joined in on a hike with a local hiking club. I think my mouth about hit the ground when I saw it across the parking lot and heading my way. They are super rare here in the states, I know, I looked hard for one for a long time and had to give up, which is how I ended up with Tosh, .

Aren't they just the greatest dogs, I have had a fondness for them ever since I saw my first one about 30 years ago. Maybe it's their resemblence to standard poodles (it is rumored that they share a common ancestor), or just that clownish look they have that catches my heart.

Tahlee, check out Jake's, aka, Carols, post about her IWS, I think she's the only one on this forum with one and I'm in love with Jake, want him to come visit me in the states, but of course, I doubt I'd let him leave. I think if we lived closer we'd work out a doggy exchange program

Glad you liked him Chaz. How old was he? I've never seen an IWS on a halter. Methinks he needs a bit more training if he chases boats!

Yes they are a lovely breed. Very willing to please. They do need a phenomenal amount of exercise and need a good leader or they will not respect you. But that goes for any dog!

I did post one recently that is in rescue and needs a home! (hint, hint)

this is the thread which links to the dog. I'm sorry I have no idea if he's still available. Unusually he hasn't been handed over to IWS rescue!

It would be a shame if he was still waiting for a forever home!

Thanks for that. Have checked him out and what a stunner. I did think Portugese water spaniel when I first saw the pic. Can't say I've heard of the breed here. Then again, there are so many dog breeds......
