Default Help choosing a new breed.

Hi guys and gals.

New here but hope to become a familar face soon.

I was hoping you might be able to give me some advice.

We currently have a lovely 18 month old Parson Jack Russell and we would like a friend for her.

She is very quiet, in fact she never barks, and we wanted to know if there are any other breeds renowned for being quiet. I know the chances of getting another mute dog is next to none but we wanted to see if you had any suggestions.

We're looking to get the new pup in August so we have abit of time to do our research.

We really wanted a Daschund, but I've heard they're very yappy.

Can anyone help???

thanks!

Fenwick

Welcome to DogForum.org.

I don;t think Daschund is yappy at all. None that I have met over the years has been. Poodle on the other hand tend to be more vocal. I think a Daschund may be a very god choice for you they are lively little dogs and will be able to keep up with your Jack Russell.

Looks forward to seeing some pics of your dog.

Dachshunds, in my experience with the breed, are not yappy at all as long as they're trained properly. My girls only barked when someone was at the door, and were quiet as soon as we let the person in or told them "enough". They are however notoriously difficult to housebreak - but it does come eventually.

To be honest i wouldnt worry bout barking after all dogs bark, and being annoyed at that is like bein annoyed when you hear someone speak. I've never had one but every golden retriever ive known has always been quite quiet though.

I hope you got the dog your lookin for and you russel has a happy live.

Mat

All dogs bark but there are breeds definitely more prone to it. I have never heard or eperienced doxies as being overly yappy though. Poodles of all sizes tend to be more barky. When you are doing your research check out where they are listed for alert dogs. The higher they are the more they will bark.

Basenjis don't bark, but they sure do yodel! Every one I've been around as been pretty vocal, and their voice definitely takes some getting used to. Especially when they get it really high pitched.
