Default Changing Saffi's travelling arrangements

WE ARE CHANGING OUR CAR COS THE ONE WE HAVE A HYUNDAI LANTRA IS NOT REALLY SUITABLE FOR SAFFI .... ITS JUST A FOUR DOOR SALOON AND ALTHOUGH ROOMY AT THE BACK IS NOT REALLY SUITABLE FOR HIS NEEDS.
wE HAVE DECIDED TO GET A FORD FOCUS ESTATE CAR AND USE THE DOG GUARD IN IT TOO,
WILL SAFFI STILL NEED TO BE HARNESSED OR WOULD IT BE SAFE TO LET HIM RIDE FREE. MY PARTNER SAYS WE CAN GUARD THE BACK OF THE CAR TOO SO IF EVER WE WAS REAR ENDED SAFFI WOULD BE AS SAFE AS WAS POSSIBLE FROM ANY IMPACT.
ADVICE WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED AS I DON`T WANT TO CAGE SAFFI IN A CRATE AS HE WOULD FIND THAT TOO DISTRESSING.

I would harness and am now making it a point to let people know. Matter of fact I'll be posting a thread on it. Two friends were just recently in a car crash. They take their dog along for rides a lot. They thank God she was not in the car that day, and have now bought a "doggie seatbelt." All the glass was broken from the car, and only their seatbelts where keeping them in, the car was flipped - not their fault, someone else ran red light.

Food for thought: "Routine farming practices are so abusive that they would warrant felony animal cruelty charges were they done to cats or dogs."

I'm a firm believer in pets being crated or harnessed in vehicles. I've seen too many bad things happen when pets are left loose even behind barriers. They can be thrown out of the cars or even propelled through windshields.

We always have saffi harnessed in the camper and have always harnessed him in the car .......... just i had had conflicting views on harnessing if the dog was secure behind a dog guard and as i said partner was also gonna put a guard up at the back too, as the idea in getting the estate car is so saffi has more room for comfort on long journeys.
My instinct told me the sensible thing would be to harness too as better to be safe then sorry.
many thanks for your input

applesmom the dog guards we are getting are specially made to stop the dog being propelled through windscreens should an accident happen as well as stopping them trying to get into the front of the car
Saffi does travel well and settles easily we just want him to have more room as he is getting quite large now ................ my puppy is not a baby any more
