Default Fido's Farm

I belong to a few meetup groups that I never attend. One in the Seattle area is called A-BC Pacific NW Aussie and Border Collie Playgroup.
When I saw it, I signed up, but then found that just about all of their activities are in the Seattle/Bellevue area and I'm not taking Sadie to Seattle to go for a wine tour walk ?!
But a few months ago, they planned an event at a herding training place down by Olympia and for $25 you could have a herding evaluation of your dog. I wanted to go all summer but with my foot surgery did not know if I was going to make it. Well, the foot is fine now, so we went and met all those people and their dogs. Thank you GPS for getting me there.
Sadie was the second dog to get her evaluation and the lady doing it was impressed her. She scored high in all categories and got right into it. I was almost embarrassed because she did so much better than the other dogs, though they all were learning and showed progress.
I wasn't going to do the agility training but after watching for a while, decided to give that a try. Sadie didn't shine at that where other dogs that had some experience did. It was hard for the trainer to get her to through the tunnel but she got a little better each time and went through good the last time.
Now I have to go and consider how much herding training I want to do with her. This place did more work with her than another I had taken her to a couple years ago where all they did was get your dog to chase sheep in a small pen. But that place is a 'first come...first serve' so they don't have a lot of time when 20 dogs are lined up. Fido's is by reservation so they have the time to work with the dogs.
I have even thought that Sadie might have had herding training before I got her at 4 yrs but it is so instinctual with Aussies that it would be hard to tell. She was so well behaved the whole time we were there and even play wrestled with another young dog which she seldom does but it sure was cute..
This was a good day for Sadie and her person.

Glad you had a good time. Hey don't be embarrassed the fact is the other dogs that had experience obviously had done it before. Practice makes perfect and if you at first you don't succeed you try again!! The fact that in the evaluation the lady was impressed should have filled you with inspiration Thanks for posting!!!

Sounds like you both had a great time!!!! I bet Sadie would do great as an agility dog. I love the thought of agility with Harley. Problem is, my bum hip. Until it get's replaced, moving slowly in my back yard is the best I can do.

If I go again, I'll try to get some video.
One dog made me laugh. Don't know breed but half Sadie's size, gold with white collar, face sort of aussie but not a mini aussie.
Anyway, they took it out to where the herding evaluation are happening,(probably 150x100 ft), and the little guy was doing great at chasing the sheep until he spotted the dogs and people on the other side of the fence, even though we were 20ft back.
Then he would come running over to the fence to say 'hi' to everyone with a big doggy smile and a wagging tail. They would then re-direct him to the sheep and he'd chase them a while and then come running back to say 'hi' again. This happened 4 or 5 times in his 10 minute evaluation. Not a good herding habit but it was just so funny. He appeared to be quite young so distractions should be expected.

LOL MrJohn! He may have been young and distracted, but I'd say he was well socialized!
