Default Smaller breed suggestions

My fiancee and I are looking at getting another dog shortly after we return from our honeymoon. Our wedding is on October 16. We're talking about getting a smaller breed for her. She says that Rambo is my dog, and she wants one for herself although she still loves Rambo very much. Anyway, she likes miniature schnauzers and yorkies. What are some other breeds that we could consider. I'm wanting to read up on them before we make a decision. I just wanted to see what other breeds the community might suggest. Thanks in advance.

First of all congratulations! I hope that all goes well on your wedding day and that you have a fantastic honeymoon!
The question is why she likes Schnauzers and Yorkies. Is it appearance? Personality?

This one has similar information on temperament.

She actually grew up with Schnauzers,a nd has always loved them. Her family had 2 of them. She has come to like Yorkies after playing with our friend's Yorkie. Her parents have a toy poodle now which she loves, but she would prefer a Schnauzer or a Yorkie.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding day!

Perhaps you could fill in a little more about what your soon-to-be-wife wants from a dog of her own, how much training experience she has, whether she wants to do any dog sports, activities etc with it or whether it will be more of a companion dog as this will determine the level of drive, energy, trainability etc she's looking for in a breed.

Schnauzers and Yorkies both have quite tenacious personalities IME, so i'm guessing she likes the little dogs that think they're big - and i'm also assuming she likes the ones with beards and hairy eyebrows?

There's a number of other terrier types that fall into that size and appearance category with hairy faces and the terrier tenacity, the Bedlington, Dandy Dinmont, Norfolk, Border, Jack Russell, Parson, West Highland, Scottish and many others - all of which have mega personalities but little bodies and that very characterful face with the hair that Schnauzers and Yorkies have.

All the terrier breeds need a firmish hand, so if she'd rather a more docile dog then some of the spaniel breeds are that size and make lovely family pets.

It really is down to personal preference more than anything. If I were to pick a dog that size it would be a Spaniel type as I like their fun energy and floppy natures.
