Default Sticking to the same breed

Ive noticed on here and out and about tht people who have more than one dog tend to stick to the same breed. Why is it I ask myself...cos ive done the same, ive got 2 border collies and before I had any dogs I wanted a springer spaniel. Once I had Zak my bc and decided to get another dog there was no question I wanted another border collie.
Is it tht we feel confident and comfotable with the breed we already have? or we just love um to bits?

Being a mutt owner I can't say firsthand why people do this, but my guess would be that aside from liking the look and temperament of the breed, having a positive experience with one particular breed would result in people going with "what they know".

And the reverse can be true. As much as I loved my Bayta girl, I will probably never own another purebred Dalmatian. Not because it was a negative experience so much as not the experience I'd hoped for. She was more active than I thought I could handle. And a very smart but very hardheaded dog. i know that can come in any furry package but it is a noted trait of many Dals. now a Dal that I meet that has mellower qualities would still turn my head.

I think people tend to associate a cetain type of personality with a breed and if it suits them, why not stick with it? Also different breeds can be more suitable for different lifestyles. If you haven't read "Why we love the dogs we do" you might give it a try if you're really interested.

Hubby and I tend to prefer outdoorsy dogs like Retrievers because we spend so much time out in the woods. Huskies and Beagles wouldn't work because they have a tendency to run off. We're not really small dog people either. Like Cassidy said, mystery dogs work too for us and I'd definitely get another shelter dog given the opportunity. It would just have to be physically capable of coming along on hiking, camping and canoeing trips.

I tend to gravitate to the herding breeds. More or less I like their spirit. I think this happens to a lot of people, they find a breed or group that suits them.

MacKenzie is not only the third Rough Coated Collie I've had in 35 years, he's also the third male sable in my life.

When Robbie passed away he was 12 and I'd had him since he was 8 weeks old, I swore I'd never have another dog. It took me 18 months to be ready to welcome another into my life. Because of my lifestyle (I was a full-time RV'r with a show schedule that was gruelling), friends kept suggesting that I get a smaller dog. It took about 5 seconds of thinking about that suggestion to toss it out the window.

Because of MY age, it's doubtful that I'll have another dog in my life but if I did it would be another sable RC male Collie. The why of it is not something I can explain easily, heck, I can't explain it at all...

I seem to end up with an = amount of pure breeds and mixes... So far no repeats but I also get my dogs at the shelter ... So far yorkie , ridgeback, shi ztu and GSD for pure breeds

Hm, I've had only two breeds all my life, Labs and German Shepherds. Heck, even now I have a German Shepherd, out of all the dogs I could have picked I picked this, so I guess the breeds do stick with you.

I now want a Lab too! XD
