Default Breeding too young of a dog!

I go nuts, a guy I dated a while back is determind to breed his Am bulldog cross that he keeps telling me she's a bandog. He got her from some backyard breeder who keeps his own lines etc. On top of that when she was way too young she got trained for protection and I can tell through the webcamera that she's a tad insecure when guarding. However she's great with his kids and everything and is a very sweet and loving dog. But she lacks a great deal of mental maturity. She's a big heavy girl and far from done growing and he has intentions of breeding her in about two weeks. We had a horrible fight when breaking up and just started talking today again lightly, and when he said he was gonna breed her he told me, don't give me no (bad word). And I said no I wont but please concider her age at least.. This is the most stubborn man on earth so I know I cant make him reconcider not breeding her at all but Im at least trying to make him think of her health. He already have a ton of homes lined up with good people that are his friends so at least that is good. But Im now concerned over her health and sent him an article that covers some of it. I doubt he will listen, so please keep fingers crossed for this girl and puppies. I am just ranting cause Im frustrated. I really hope he wont go through with this.

You might try being real sweet and offer to take him to lunch adding that you have a special surprise planned after lunch. Don't tell him ahead of time that the special surprise is a trip to the animal shelter. Maybe seeing all the great dogs already in shelters will open his eyes to the fact that for every puppy he produces one of these dogs will have to die.

Good luck on changing his mind!

He lives in New Hampshire and only times he came to LI was to see me. And he knows he isnt stupid.. He'd just be furious over such an attempt. I have spoken to him, shown him statistics and everything else.. I just hope he thinks of HER health now at least.. she's a very sweet dog.. And I know he'd hate himself if something happened to her.. *sighs*

I don't suppose mentioning that it's wise to let a potential breeder dog be watched for a while to make sure nothing genetic develops and thus is not passed on would make any difference, would it?

I feel for you, Monkey. On the other end of the spectrum I had to crush a neighbor's friends excitement to breed her young border collie sheltie mix. When I saw the fire of joy snuff out as I advised her not to do it as she had far too little knowledge of what she was getting into I felt a twinge a bit terrible. Had to put my arm around her shoulder and tell her to enjoy her one in million dog, not risk her life. At least she listened. I hope you have a breakthrough with yours.

I put that one in as well, that was also mentioned in the article.. We will see.. I am hoping but knowing him it will be a no go. He's close to his 40ties and stubborn like a pig. Sometimes a very charming trait and sometimes it just makes me wanna strangle him like now.. I wish he could see what all of us know...

Take pictures for later, so you don't have to say anything. I'm sure there will be plenty of excuses to show it wasn't his fault.

It's tough to be along on that ride so my sympathy goes with you. Not much you can do when the walls are up like that.

How old is this dog he is trying to breed if she is way to young to breed he is basically in some way indangering her life she could have alot of difficulties in delivering the puppies.Which will not only cause harm or death to her but to puppies as well i hope u can knock some since into him.And techinically if your gonna breed your dog you need to wait for their second heat session

So shes about a year old then. Also that age is way to young to have protection trained. At 1 they are usually just starting to basics. I personally wouldnt be breeder her at that age.

I think he should just spay the dog, im wondering if the dog was purchased on a non breeding contract? if so I think the breeder could do something mind you there arent a lot of reputable Pitbull breeders. At least in my area.
