Default What would this turn out like?

I am not sure if I posted this in the right section or not? But anyway..

We are thinking about breeding Pipi and Teddy. But when Teddy is old enough of course. If we went through with it what would the pups turn out like? Pipi is a Toy Poodle x Mini Foxy and Teddy is a Chihuahua. Pipi's coat is all black and Teddy's coat is all blonde/yellow what ever you would call that. Pipi is only about 10cm taller then Teddy. So we know one thing. And that is that the pups would be miniature. Do you think they would turn out cute and gorgeous? If you need help on making your decision I would be more then happy to post some pics of Pipi and Teddy. We also thought we should breed as Pipi still does puppy humping, to our legs and her toy ducks, and our vet told us to breed as every mother needs something to feel whole. We have breeded before but that was Max and Julie... but sadley Julie has passed on after 12 years. She passed away 2 years ago.. And I am not sure if having pups would change Pipi's manourism or temperament towards us? Would she do this as she is very protective of her toy ducks and even our legs sometimes? We would have approximately 2 litters per year, as that is how many litters she should average we were told. Also it wouldn't be cruel towards Teddy, as some may think because he is 10 cm shorter because Pipi is basically the same size as Pipi anyway and he has already started to do the thing they do to girls to her now, but nothing will happen we were told as he is too young and she is not on heat. Mum has seen some ads in the paper and requests of people wanting Chihuahua's and Mum thought that we could sell them via the paper to responsible owners. The only thing I hate is when we have to part with them. That just tore me apart when we had to part with Julie's litters. But I will be okay.

What are your opinions on this?

I was told the same thing about my dog, Roxy. I wanted to get her fixed before her first heat but I was told that she should have a litter first to make her whole.

I think that mix would look cute! You could call them Foxy Chi-Poos. LOL!

Foxy-Chi-Poos hey? Excellent idea! We were wondering what we would call the breed haha!
Thanks for your opinion! I think the breed would look cute too! Once we go through with it I will have to post some pics before they go for sure!

Whoever told you to breed these dogs is IMO nuts! No dog male or female needs to be bred to be complete. That's an old wives tale and if your vet, who certainly knows better, told you that he only said it because of the money you will spend with him while caring for the mother and puppies.

Aren't you aware that millions of dogs are put to death in shelters every year for the simple reason that there simply aren't enough homes for the numbers of dogs that are being born? If you're going to breed dogs you are responsible for those dogs for the rest of their lives. Are you prepared to take them back when the owners get tired of them or keep in touch with every puppy owner to see that each one of them is being treated humanely?

Look up the statistics on the pet overpopulation tragedy and then make up your mind whether or not you still want to breed. Millions of wonderful dogs are put to death in shelters every year. Become part of the solution--not part of the problem!!!!!!!! Have your dogs spayed and neutered as any responsible pet owner would.

All puppies are cute but puppies from these two would be nothing special. There is no way of predicting what the puppies would look like. Some may resemble the mother and some may resemble the father or they may turn out completely different. They might also develop health problems related to all the breeds in the mix.

Dogs are not machines that are put on earth for us to make a little extra pocket money now and then. If you do it right; it costs more to produce a healthy litter than you can make selling the puppies.

Please educate yourself and reconsider. The HSUS is a good website to start with to educate yourself about the pet overpopulation tragedy.

ETA here's a great site to learn about breeding. http://www.learntobreed.com/index.html

Please, please, please don't breed from your dogs. There are too many back yard / designer breeders in Aust. not to mention the thousands of dogs they churn out. I would estimate that there are more dogs than homes for them. You only have to take a look at the websites of shelters & RSPCA to see how many dogs they have. Never mind how many are put to sleep.
Please take a look at all the dogs available at this site.

You know what, maybe Pipi does need something to feel whole. You guys dont know you dont see her everyday. Just please dont have a go at me.
I just come back and am trying to settle in and BOOM your biting my heads off over this thread. And we are responsible dog owners, Max has been de-sexed, Pipi and Teddy haven't as mum has a back injury and has to play for a $38,000 surgery. Maybe we dont have the money at this stage...

I'll have you know, we are not doing if for the money, we were only going to let her have 1 litter maybe 2. And we dont need to be educated we have bred one dog before and that was at her own choice.
And how do you know they wont come out anything special? All dogs are gorgeous and it doesnt matter what they look like it all depends on what the owners are looking for.

You ask a question you get an honest answer. Would you rather we lie or ignore your question?

If your mom can't afford to have her dogs S/N she sure can't afford to have a litter of puppies. Raising puppies is a lot of backbreaking work. No pun intended.

Even though I've never seen your dog I do know that no dog needs to have puppies to feel whole. That's sheer nonsense. Sorry, but if you don't like the responses you can always request that the thread be closed.

Selling them through the newspaper isn't selling them to make money?

By the way two litters a year would lead to an early death for your dog and she'd be toothless by the time she had the third litter. Is this really what you want for her?

Look, her surgery is next month. After that she has 4 months of rehab.
We were looking to have puppies for at least a year after this, so we could afford it by then.

Let me get one thing straight. I dont want to argue with you, I am just stressed out with the vets after you telling me that she doesn't need to have pups to feel whole, and I dont blame you for telling me that I am just frustrated with school etc. I know this is no excuse.

Lets just drop it and I will learn to control my actions as OPINIONS ARE OPINIONS. If that is your opinion then that is fine, I wont hassle you over that.
Lets just see what other people have to say.

But they can have at least 1 litter before we get them de-sexed right? We are thinking of having pups after a year or 2 as Teddy is too young and all of this is too much for mum to handle as she has the back injury. I am studying this very important dog book on breeding and puppies and all the breeds. So far I can recognise half of the breeds in the book if I saw them on the street!

I am sorry if I sound like I am arguing with you, I am truly sorry. It has been a rough year. I know this is no excuse..

All we want is 1 litter just so we can see if Pipi and Teddy are happy and what they turn out like. Selling them via newspaper is making money but we dont care about the money, as long as it all works out fine.
