if she sits down she isnt ready...
Then she can just be hurt instead and you might end up with a huge vet bill cause of torn penis/vulva..

If shes sitting before there is a tie shes not enjoying things but saying that Molly flirted and stood for her man and didnt mind him entering her several times before a tie happened and it was then she freaked out and then there isnt an option so we held her and calmed her and she settled and was fine, the stud dog was brillient he just let her have her flip and allowed us to calm her and then he turned and gave her a little lick on her nose and she fluttered her eyelashes lol lol

She appears to e ready, she is backing into the stud and moving her tail. He has been 'entering' her, but when he really gets going this is when she starts playing up. Up to this point she is more than willing to co-operate! She is a maiden bitch, so isit because its painfull for her?

Molly was a maiden bitch and it did take a longer time to get her to settle with the dog she kept pulling away not sitting down ust pulling away when the dog entered her and rushing round to look at what was going in her but the owner of the stud dog was brillient reall orchestrated the whole thing giving her boy instructions keeping the dogs calm telling us what to say and do wth Molly which wasnt a lot Molly was on a long line as to keep her and the dog safe at the point of tieing as we found out the girl can become a little hysterical so for no injury to take place we had to be able to control her. Are you having any help or are both dogs yours, having experienced it I could not ahve done it on my own lots of praise for both dogs was given and the stud dog was experienced so lead Molly so to speak.

I have heard you can hold a dog and bitch together but I just dont like the idea of this if its not going to happen as naturally as possible then its not time, it took about 1hr 40 mins of play before we got a tie with the dogs and if it hadnt have happened we were all set to leave it and go back the next day or wait till her next season

She will need lots of support in praise and for you to stay calm and encourageing

Good luck

If she sits down it does not mean she is not ready, some females become non breeders. I just sold wini I imported from the Netherlands and she was just 3 yrs, she only had one cycle a year and refused to stand to breed. Your dog is young at 2 yet, has she had test done, Hips, etc that run in the breed?

I do not believe in so called Raping of a female such suggestions as shoots, tie close to a pole, tree, etc and force breed her. Some dogs doing this might just kill the pups, chew on them, not get milk to feed them, some just are non breeders for reasons a vet cannot or will not answer. I got to the point of not even asking a vet anything concerning breeding as they really do not get the experience as a long time Breeder such as I have problems and all.

It might be best to just spay her and get another female to breed at two years or older, maybe a year might help her and have a vet open her also. I have had that done for virgin females and made a big difference. With Wini, I did not bother as her cyles were just weird, she was some shy or timid about forcing issues, so I just found her a spay home with small children as a pet and they adore her.

To be fair, thats what I am thinking! Should I just leave her and not mate her as I do not want to frce her into this, I want her to want to do it. I have been watching her in my garden this morning and she is backing into my own dogs (female and male which has been castrated!!) and her tail is swinging round, so I think she is definately ready at this point in her season, but either it is just to painful for her, or she just to young.

Perhaps the answer to this is wait til next season, if its still the same then have her spayed and get my self another breeding bitch as per the comment above from Sheplovr.

Thanks for all your replys guys

Hi, just out of curiosity, why do you want to breed from her?

If I haven't already welcomed you to the forum, welcome! (Any pictures of your dogs?)

I want to breed her becaue she is a great dog of her breed, and has a fantastic temperment. I would also keep one or two of her pups as I want to train them for agility courses.

I also believe that it is good for a bitch to have one litter in her life. I have always done this with my bitches and have found it has given them an even better tempermant. This is of course just my own experience and is not the case with all dogs!

May be its the stud dog shes not interested in

When we went to mate Molly the first stud that was introduced to her she just was not interested in and snapped at him grumbled swung away and did infact sit down a few times. As shep says its not good to force dogs together so the breeder of the stud had another male and so she introduced him to molly and it was then we got all the action, did take a while for the tie but she definitely didnt want to sit down with this male so it may not be your girl it may just be that you need to try another stud dog
