Default Where do you stand on Cropping Ears and Docking Tails

I cannot understand in this day and age why we still crop ears and dock tails. They say that some working breeds this has to be done, but I still need to be convinced on that one.

BUT just because a breed standard for show dogs says it needs to be done, does not make it right.

How they are born surely that's how they should stay.

I'm with you completely. I hate it, and I think cropped ears make a dog look aggressive. Thank goodness I'm in the UK and don't have to see dogs with ears like that. On forums, I ignore the threads that have dogs with cropped ears. It actually repulses me sometimes.

That's my opinion, dogs should stay as natural as the way they were born.

I don't have any problem with it whatsoever as long as it's done by a qualified vet.

However I'm not going to get into a huge debate about it. Been there, done that! IMO The pointless debates never change anyone's mind.

I don't like it, I'm in the UK but I have seen a dobie with ears and tails docked, she was imported to be a guard dog, but the worst guard dog ever lol, she ran away from a butterfly once, and I was walking her past a cav and the cav barked and Eva jumped and went as far away from the little dog as possible, I don't see the need for it anymore, and if you do want a dog without a tail buy one thats born without a tail, and I don't see the point in ears at all, Diesel says that there just jeolous of his ears lol.

I personally don't like it. Thats my own opinion. My husband being from the States prefers the boxers with cropped ears. I don't I like them the way they are born. Floppy ears an all

Can I point out before anyone gets heated under the collar - this is a no-win debate. We've done this to death a lot in the past. Those who agree with docking/cropping will not change their views. Those of us who are against it won't change ours. So we have to respect our fellow members opinions and agree to differ like intelligent adults.

Feel free to debate until the cows come home, but please also be respectful as there is one thing that every dogforum member has in common - we love our dogs and probably all dogs.

Good luck -

Yes, nothing here on this thread that has been on over and over to fight or argue about, just a personal opinion.

I do not have to worry about it. Had a Boxer, had a nice show cut on his ears, got infected after excellent care, so for that reason I would not go through that again.

If not showing let the dogs alone and be natural like GOD made them. Over...

Well I have not seen this or similar thread before. Iam going to have my say! Ears are precious things and should not be tampered with changed in any way just to suit the owner. it very similar to those people who must insist on peircing thier very young childrens ears to make them look more beautiful! The poor child can't speak up and make thier mind up same as dogs so IMHO it's not a nice thing to do.
