I have not completed the poll as this is not a straighforward yes or no.

It depends on the individual I prefer males , as I do not like the hormone aspects with a female. Also you do not have the mess involved when a female comes into season.

You will get so many different opinions on this and it is a very personal choice. Some people will say females are more loving and loyal than males but I think this is a myth and nothing to do with the male/female aspect but more to do with the fact that all dogs whether male or female are different.

I don't really have a preference either other than the same things Borzoi mad pointed out.

I choose my pets by personality and temperament, not their sex.

The one thing that does need to be considered is; without careful guidance, male dogs will lift their legs just about anywhere and more often, even up against the house. Females are naturally more particular about where and when they go pee and seldom resort to marking as males will. With consistency though males can be easily trained where and when to pee.

If there were two with excellent temprements, a male and a female, I'd go for the male. I just get on better with males.

For me neither as a LAB, but in general the Girls take my heart. They stick to me like glue. More loyal, pees on ground, much better than killing my flowers, shrubs, stinks and I have to go around and wash places males pee with two lifting legs off n on all day covering each other tracks.

I love females because I feel mine make nicer house pets for families with children and just seem more caring. Even a neutered male will still smell a female. I love all my dogs but preference is females./

i voted male as i have heard that once you have had any breed of dog neautered the boy dogs are more loving and loyal...especially with female owners, but saying that as someone above mentioned, its the girls that always win my heart, and ive only ever had girls!!!

I grew up with mostly male dogs until the last 5 years. I have had males that were love bugs like a female. Right now I have 2 females with the personalities as different as night and day. One that is calm, but needs a light hand when it comes to training. The other female is just like my male was, fast learner, will do just about anything and sticks like glue.

I think it's mostly the matter of preference. Here is an in-general look at the differences
Quote:
Let's look at male dogs

SPEAKING VERY GENERALLY...
  • Male dogs tend to be "lovable slobs" and "good ol' boys."
  • Male dogs tend to be more outgoing, more vigorously affectionate, more "in your face."
  • Male dogs tend to be more stable and reliable in mood, less prone to emotional swings.
  • Male dogs tend to be clumsy and silly and prone to acting like oversized kids.
  • Male dogs mean well and are easy to love.
  • Let's look at female dogs
SPEAKING VERY GENERALLY...
  • Female dogs tend to be more subtle than males. They're affectionate on their own terms. They'll request or demand petting, then reassert their independence by walking away when they've had enough.
  • Female dogs tend to be quicker to learn and are not as easily distracted during training sessions.
  • Female dogs are less likely to be openly defiant or to engage in blunt power struggles or dominance challenges -- yet they can be clever, passively resistant, and manipulative about getting their own way.
  • Female dogs are prone to mood swings and emotional theatrics. They can be sweet one day (or one hour!) and grumpy the next.
  • Female dogs are experts at The Dirty Look and The Sulk.

thats not true at all about male dogs, it not there bits that make them more loyal and loving it there personality.

Max was un castated for about 7 years of his life, he has only been done for a year, he was exsreamly loyal and loving before he was done, and hasn't changed one bit since he was done.

I always prefered male dogs. But didn't vote as I not a Lab fan.
