Sadly, reading an article one day and deciding to breed the next is quite typical of todays society. Or, some people take an entire week out of their spare time (Oh my!) and read up on varying articles written online. About half of those people who read anything 'bad that could happen' just say the usual, such as when considering to wear a seatbelt in a car just less important to them because it doesn't effect them directly.,, They say, "Oh, it wont happen to me." And then, poof, there goes a few puppy lives and a few bad-beans out in the world to breed in a few years and spread issues amongst the common breeds of dogs, or get abused, or live without a home until starvation hits, or to live their entire life 'behind bars' in a shelter- if they are lucky enough to end up in a no-kill shelter that is.

It doesn't take 'reading a few articles' one day, or even a few months of your life to be caught up on what exactly it takes to breed properly. It takes a lifetime of learning.

I would suggest that anyone who wants to start breeding take the steps in order:

#1. Volunteer your full-time daily effort at a high-kill shelter or organization. If not high-kill is not available to you (Lucky here) how about volunteer your time to a shelter or SPCA for three months. Oh- don't have enough spare time? Don;t want to see dogs put to sleep? Don't want to deal with the heart-ache? Don;t want to... ..shhh! You have already failed at what you set out to do f your answer, for any reason other than 'I want to skip this step' were mentioned! And SKIPPING this step is nt available to you. Now, if you DO make it past #1 move on..

#2: Research and find a reputable breeder, or two (Good luck, this does NOT mean any random person who owns dogs and gets puppies out of them like a slot machine spits out money. I mean a person that does every thing possible to better the breed rather than 'make an extra penny.') and help out with them as much as possible. Offer your time (If you don't have time, then you have once again failed- as raising puppies is a full time and low income, but high cost, job) Perhaps just helping out with someone will fulfil yur desire to be around puppies, and thus, breeding wont have to be your option.

#3. Admit, firstly to yourself then to all those who want to know, WHY exactly you want to breed. Ashamed of your reasoning? Cant admit it to the public? Obviously you are doing it for all the wrong reasons then- try buying a special line of stuffed animal and collecting 'them all', or a board game called 'Monopoly' to fulfill your 'need for greed'.

And many, many more steps before even considering it.
