Default Life expectancy by breed / size

Wondering how old your dog will get? Well assuming that your doggy dies of old age, chances are, the smaller he/she is, the older your dog will get.

http://www.pets.ca/pettips/tips-46.htm

Most likely to get to age 14 are Bedlington Terriers, Mini Dachshunds, Miniature Poodles, Tibetan Terriers, Toy Poodles, and Whippets.

Most likely not to see age 10 are Bulldogs, Irish Wolfhounds, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Bullmastiffs and Great Danes.

Check the link for some cool info on aging in dogs, which shows how much of a difference size makes.

I've heard greyhounds live on average to 12 years. This site says 13.2 years, so maybe I will have a bit longer with them. Of course every dog is different. For a Lurcher this site says 12.6, my two Lurchers both died in their 14th year.
I have always wanted an Irish Wolfhound, but does it seem silly that I won't get one becuase they have a shorter life expectancy?

When I got my Aussie I was told the average life expectancy was 10. However Zephyr lived to be 13-/12 his sire was also 13 when he died while his mother was 11. A friend of mine had three Aussies who were related. Her first Aussie died of Cancer at 10-1/2 her half sister at 12 to heart disease. Her remaining Aussie will be 15 in Dec.

Odin will be 13 in May and even though he's dealing with some arthritis issues he's still pretty spry for his age. He has a litter sister Dove who just got her tracking title at age 12-1/2.

Good reading there....but what surprised me was to learn about Bernese Mountain Dogs life expectances is only 7 years due to a high rate of cancer......... Much shorter than I ever would of thought....

12.6 for my Labs and
13.4 for my Shih Tzu, pretty close.
I thought Shih Tzus lived longer and I thought my labs lived shorter
Thanx for the thread, very informative

Hmmmmm...guess I don't have a popular breed as I saw no Corgis there at all...Pembroke or Cardigans.

Corgis are there at 11.3. I guess it's the same for both kinds.
