A bulldog is only 6.7 years!
As Lancer isnt a British Bulldog, he should live longer...right??

I've never understood this. Why do they age at a rate of 6-7 years for our one year? That never made sense to me and I dont know who came up with that to determine it. How would anyone know that a five year old GSD is actually 35 or so in our years?

That 6-7 human years for one dog year isn't accurate, it is simply "better than nothing."
There are better conversions out there-like here

http://www.uexplore.com/misc/dogyears.htm
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/age.htm
http://www.executec.com/age.htm

I just simplified things and say that the 1st dog year is 15 human years, the second dog year is 10 human years, and after that each dog year is about 5 human years. But big dogs don't live as long as small dogs. Not too hard for me to remember.

I've read about that as well and it's sad. I've seen some beautiful Bernese Mt. dogs and Great Pyrenees and I wondered about their longevity.

wow the life expectancy for my beloved rhodesians is much less than i had thought!!! i thought it would be at least 13-14 yars, but it says only 9.1 that is a bit disheartening especially because it is going to be my next dog... far down the road lol

and with sable being part R.R. it worries me as she just turned 8 years old.... but i think she is going to live for quite a bit longer as she still looks and acts quite young lol

if people didnt feed them crappy dog food they would live longer, if thats not true it would be true in breeding that the future pups will live longer because of this.
