Default Puppy taken away for no reason

Hi. I'm a new joiner and have never really done this before so if I'm using this forum in the wrong way I apologise. Its just that I feel so depressed right now. My gorgeous little puppy was removed from my home by the police a few weeks ago. He was 8 months old and had never even harmed a fly. The reason they took him was because in their opinion "he looks like a pitbull type" and apparently based on his looks alone they had the right to remove him under the dangerous dogs act. It has left me distraught! He was my baby! Now I have to be summoned to court to appeal to the powers that be not to put him to sleep and convince them that I'm a responsible dog owner. Although I know I can prove this in the meantime my gorgeous little pup has been taken away from a loving home and placed in dog kennels somewhere. I'm not allowed to know where he is and I havent seen him for nearly 4 weeks now. I havent even got a court date yet so its anybodys guess how long its all going to take and theres no guarantee that I'll get him back. Look I understand that there are people out there that train their dogs to be aggressive and fight but we are not all the same and should not al be treated the same and tarred with the same brush.I took my pup to dog training classes, I bought him lots of toys, I socialised him and walked him every day. It never once occurred to me to do anything other than to bring him up as a well trained family pet. My dog isnt even a full pitbull - he's a staffy cross. Has anyone else ever been through this and if so do you know if theres anything I can do or any organisation I can contact that can help me to get my puppy back? I've got to go now as I'm getting too upset.

Thanks for reading this.

Joslyn

Joslyn Sounds like you're in the UK.

Authorities did the same thing in Denver, Colorado a few years back. Does your dog have papers... I think mixes and APBT's are outlawed in the UK but I am not certain...

Look up your laws... educate yourself.... and FIGHT 'THE MAN!'

Good luck... I am so sorry for the situation you are in.

Get a good lawyer!

Oh I am sorry. I'm afraid I can't help, I have no real knowledge in these matters and I don't know how the law works, but wanted to wish you the best of luck in fighting for the right to keep your dog.

How do you suppose the police came to be calling on you anyway.....do you have a nosey neighbour? Busybodies are rather quick to stick their oar in without bothering to get their facts straight, no matter how good-intenioned........

Why don't you start by calling your local vet and see if they can give you an idea as to where to start your enquiries?

GOOD LUCK and don't give up.

CS x

Curly Sue. Thanks for your words of support. I definately will not be giving up. I've already made some enquiries and been in touch with various organisations but just keep getting passed from pillar to post. I'll keep on trying though!

Hi Joslyn,
Welcome to the forum, I am sorry that you came here like this with your puppy gone

Hmm..I think unless you have papers of some sort saying he is not one of those mixes I don't know what else you can do

Good luck and I agree with Lilpantz... fight 'THE MAN'!
Take care!

Thanks for you support. Yes I am in the UK. Its so unfair that they can take an animal away because of the way he looks. Oh well. I'll continue finding out what I can and will do my best to get him back

I'm so sorry to hear that happened-don't know what this world is coming to. I think your first step is to find a good lawyer! One that has a good "track record" in getting dogs back in their homes. Good luck!

Hi Ali. he actually is a mix but my point is that I'm a responsible dog owner and was training my dog to be a well behaved family pet but because he's a staff mixed with Pit all that matters is his breed and nothing else and that cannot be right!
