Default A new dog...a Bichon?

Hi

I am thinking of getting a new dog, it has been in the pipeline for a while but now feel it is nearing the right time to get one as our dog Lola the boxer has now taken up permenant residence at my mother in laws (she was staying over while we were on holiday!!) as her and my MIL dog are now best friends and they pine really bad when seperated she has a bigger garden to run around in and a playmate and is so happy it breaks my heart to take her away but it also breaks my heart to leave her. Right now on to my question...

I am looking at getting a bichon frise but would like all your advice about them or can anyone forward me to a good website that will give me really good information. I have googled the breed but all I keep getting is epupz and other websites selling them.

thanks in advance

Hi Madasaboxerfrogs, I find that the breed clubs and rescues usually have good info.
Maybe these links will help:
http://www.bichon.org/
http://www.bichonfriseusa.com/ref/consider.htm

I found this link you can read from an experienced owner of one or others. Why do you want a high maintenance dog when you had a Boxer, just curious? http://www.your-bichon-frise.com/a.htm The look like cotton balls. lol. This is really a good link of how to and what not from a lady that paid $2700 for one??

I dont know why a bichon I have always wanted another dog, just started reading about different breeds and I kept going back to this one, but I will not decide which sort of dog until I have done loads of research.

If anyone can suggest an alternative breed I will always consider another.

I am after a smaller dog which doesnt need much exercise as I cant always go for long walks atm I can manage a 15-20 minute walk and we have a reasonable sized fenced in garden. I dont mind if they need grooming everyday as I have had a sheltie in the past and a long haired cat and I find it relaxing.

Shih Tzues,Yorkies and Chihuahuas are other small breeds to concider among many...my mother had a yorkie and he is a great little companion dog and only needs minimal excersise but this breed can be very expensive$$$

Good luck with finidng your new puppy. I don't know much about that breed. I see a couple of them in my dog school & the ones I've seen do great in obedience training.

Good for you for doing research in advance! Have you ever tried a breed-selector quiz? If not, here are a couple good ones that you might find come in handy:

http://animal.discovery.com/breedsel...dogselector.do
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm

If you do a search on Google, you're sure to find plenty more.
