Default Stores report thefts of dog-training collars

I thought this was very odd. I wonder if these are just thugs with dogs or if there is a more sinister reason for having these collars (remote devices?).

Stores report thefts of dog-training collars

Quote:
A string of thefts of dog-training collars have been reported across the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area and in Lincoln.

Shoplifters have taken remote dog-training collars and other electronic training equipment from stores in Bellevue, Lincoln and Council Bluffs, police say. The collars cost about $190 to $270 each.

Police believe the thefts are connected.

On Sept. 17, someone stole eight collars worth more than $1,900 from a Menards in Bellevue, police say. Two days later, a Menards in Council Bluffs reported the theft of three collars and other dog-training equipment worth $1,350.

A Lincoln Menards also reported 13 dog collars stolen. Police recovered the collars about a mile from the store. A bag with the items had been dumped by the side of a road.

Menards stores in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin have reported similar thefts, Lincoln police said. Jennifer Palmer

They could have in mind using them on thefts of stores for money. Electric collars give a good sting. Or, selling for drug money to stores maybe, who knows this earth is made up of all kinds???

Somehow I doubt that they took them for dog training purposes!

A remote that has a range of over a mile has many uses, most of them not good.
